I’ve got a skin condition that mostly affects my hands and arms, it does impact on my daily life. I had a load of tests done at my local hospital since January and have had repeated infections. (They don’t know what it is yet).
On the 20th June the nurse at my GP’s did some swabs and told me a week later it’s now resistant to every antibiotic they can give me so I had to ring dermatology to see what they could do.
I left a message and the nurse rang back the following Wednesday and said they would speak to a doctor and let me know. I still hadn’t heard anything by the following Wednesday so rang again. They phoned back on the Friday and said it had taken so long as they had to speak to the microbiologist, they said they were doing me a prescription for antibiotics, a body wash and nose cream and the hospital pharmacy would do it.
Then they rang again on the Monday (14th July) to say the hospital pharmacy can’t dispense it and it has to go via my GP. They will email a letter and my GP should have it in 24hrs.
My GP hasn’t prescribed anything yet, while I was having my blood test on Tuesday (22nd), I asked if they’d got the letter and sure enough they had, had it a week by then. I noticed the antibiotics are ones the GP can’t prescribe they have to be done by the hospital!
So I rang the hospital again yesterday and they are going to prescribe the antibiotics and send it to the hospital pharmacy. The pharmacy rang today and they will be ready next Wednesday 30th July. I need to chase up my GP for the body wash and cream.
So taken weeks why my GP couldn’t just contact the hospital in the first place! It’s just constant back and forth.
Just to top things off my local hospital referred me to one 70 miles away for their help with diagnosis, we went last Wednesday and the person I was supposed to see wasn’t there that day! So a complete waste of time. They increased one of my medications and sent it to my local pharmacy who have said they can’t get hold of this medication so I’m now going to have to chase that up I’m absolutely fed up of no one speaking to each other.
I got a letter from the other hospital this morning saying I’ve got MRSA colonisation, i flaming well know thats why I need the antibiotics, wash and cream arrrgh.
I know it’s nothing serious but what if it was someone who couldn’t advocate for themselves?
