To think low cost air travel is insanely uncomfortable

Yes it does what it says on the tin - budget airline. But bloody hell a 4 hour night flight on EasyJet was horrendous. Surely there’s a cheap way to make their chairs ever so slightly less like sitting on a concrete slab? Maybe put some soft material around the plastic arm rests even? Literally however you try and contortion yourself to get an iota of sleep was impossible.

Aibu??

And yes, I totally get what you pay for but just basic comfort surely is a given?

Whats the difference in seating between easyjet and BA? We frequently get whatever flight is at the right time from the right airport so go with whoever that is, the seats are all much of a muchness

TheAmusedQuail · 24/07/2025 07:50

You're not BU. I flew Ryan Air once and never will again. Too awful and difficult to tolerate. Horrible way to start a holiday and awful way to end it.

H1lll · 24/07/2025 08:08

YANBU but unfortunately it’s not just the budget airlines. I recently flew with Tui and it was more uncomfortable than my recent EasyJet flight

Tia247 · 24/07/2025 08:10

We flew BA and found them awful, we only fly them for longer flights that Easyjet don't fly as actually find them worse. Couldn't check in till 24 hours before (which was a shock after Easyjet and being used to checking in both flights at the same time far in advance), the way the seat legs of the seats in front were configured meant under seat storage was impossible if everyone had had under seat bags (like us).

The food was absolutely vile and I felt just as cramped as on an Easyjet flight - there's not even a footrest anymore for a 10 hour flight unless you upgrade, because there's just no room for one. The only thing the seat does is recline and if the person in front reclines then your tv screen is literally in your face.

Comedycook · 24/07/2025 08:11

I recently took an internal flight in the US....bog standard seat. It was absolutely huge and very comfortable...I couldn't believe it. It was bigger and more comfortable than the premium economy seat I'd taken to get to the US.

You want to be comfortable while your plane and your low-cost airline destroys the planet and countries burn?

Damnloginpopup · 24/07/2025 08:13

It's a bus with wings not a suite at the Waldorf.

Well, yes. Obviously.

Oh good grief, give the virtue signalling a rest.

Well, yes. Obviously.

Well yes, I understand people want to be comfortable, I'm questioning the sanity of thinking it's a reasonable expectation.

Christ. It's an early start for the pulse-munching hand-wringers today isn't it?

Same. Once and never again. Even if the flights are cheap and occasionally convenient, I would rather not go away than use Ryanair.

lol

You're right, its why Ive put square wheels on my car, although Im polluting the planet, I am making sure Im as uncomfortable as I possibly can be.

Bodonka · 24/07/2025 08:20

I find them all much of a muchness when it comes to short haul. Some BA flights are more uncomfortable than EasyJet/Ryanair IMO.

Octavia64 · 24/07/2025 08:23

They’re pretty much all uncomfortable these days.

even long haul ones.

yeah, bus with wings really resonates for me.

Wasn"t a 787 by any chance was it?

Rumour has it distribution system for the In flight Entertainment (IFE) system on some of those can compromise space under some economy seats..

RainSoakedNights · 24/07/2025 08:24

I’ve started flying only with BA. They’re just a better service all round. Quieter flights, snacks and water even on an hour long hop to Amsterdam and the customer service is second to none

notevencharging · 24/07/2025 08:28

There’s no difference in comfort between your easyJet/ryanair and BA/Tui. In fact some of the worst flights I’ve had (both short and long haul) have been BA.

latetothefisting · 24/07/2025 08:29

If you think easy jet is bad don't try Ryan Air! Even less room and the seats are plastic rather than fabric.

But it is incredibly cheap when you think about it - the last 5 easy jet/Ryan Air flights I've taken are less than one train journey to London (and I live less than 2 hrs away).

Why do you need to sleep on a 4hr flight anyway?

They are stopping the water

Whaaaaaaaat

Still worth it! Family of four flying from London to Rome was £800 with all bags included (hand luggage x 2 and a checked bag each), the same from Bristol with easyJet was £1600!

Titasaducksarse · 24/07/2025 08:33

Did 4 hour flight with easyjet last month in a normal economy seat. Absolutely fine.

Pretty much..

It's same old story about the airlines needing to keep ticket prices down..v

Certainly verses prices (corrected for inflation) a handful of decades back most economy fares these days are a bargain.

If people want the sort of legroom that was available in Economy maybe 30 years ago they are going to have to consider travelling Economy plus or whatever the appropriate brand is called.
