I hate working. Im 35. Thats it thats the thread

OP posts:

At 35, my DSis and i were both unhappy at work, but felt we'd left it too late to change direction

20 years later -

She's still in a similar role, hating every minute, poor mental health, desperate to retire

I was forced to take a different role, turns out I'm damn good at it, absolutely love it, in no hurry to retire and Friday night / Monday morning all feels the same to me. And I'm hugely grateful for this

So, at 35 it's not too late to change direction and you have approx 30 years ahead of you. Important to enjoy what you do

I like my job, but I won't have it soon and will probably just have to take whatever job I can get, which is a whole other issue.

I had a pretty “satisfying” career pre kids. Used my degree, had progression, when I gave it up to stay at home and tutor part time my mum was furious. Truth is, I hate working, and I REALLY hate working for other people. Not bad now I’m self employed and can work from my house, teaching the kids I want to teach. If you can, I’d look into being self employed. It’s more stressful in a lot of ways, but the thing that irked me about every job I’ve had before is other people/management.

If you can identify what you hate that will help. Is it management? Is it the day to day tasks? Is it your field of work? You will probably always hate working, but identifying what is the worst bit and focusing on changing that will make it more bearable.

My sister married for money, doesn’t work, but she’s married to an absolute pig. Only saving grace is he’s much older, so hopefully he drops first. Seeing her marriage when I was a teenager scared me into working hard and put me off the marrying for money thing.

Your last paragraph... that a shame. About him being a pig and dropping off.

I absolutely love my job, no day is the same and we have such a laugh within our office (NHS admin)

That's good to hear. Work can be hard, it can take a toll physically and mentally, but if everyone does a bit to try and lift each other up it makes all the difference.

I'm the dick? Not my husbands ex wife who is stalking me on here and attacking me out of nowhere. Another username Laura?

Coming from someone who just called me a dick for defending myself....
Who have I wound up on this thread? You've come out of nowhere.. AGAIN.. with a different username. I know it's you and it's getting ridiculous.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Thank you. Been there over 20 years and now I have to help close the charity. It's a shitty situation.

Another irrelevant comment. You're really pushing your luck with me at this point. I kid you not.

Is that a….threat?

If so, if that poster continue to push their luck with you…. What would you actually do?

I think you’ve just made a bit of a tit of yourself really!

I’m out in 15 months at 55. I think about it every day. Nurse.

Yesyourecorrect · 26/07/2025 15:11

I work part time, so feels like best of both worlds. Lots of “me” time, but also love going in to office, chatting with colleagues and feel like I make a difference in what I do. I will hold on to that for as long as possible!

If it makes you feel better OP I know a couple who came into a great deal of money at about your age. They both gave up work and did nothing for 6 months.

They went back to work after that. Without work, life lacked a fulfilling framework.

15 years on they are both still working.

You see, to me that shows a complete lack of imagination .

Each to own I know, but I think its pretty sad if you cant find fulfillment in other ways other than work

Yesyourecorrect · 26/07/2025 15:18

Oh no I missed the deleted comment from scary @GreenGully

was it another threat? 😆

Another brand new username... Really? Then reporting comments. I can't for the life of me see why MNHQ agreed to that one.

I can't believe you have resorted to commenting on the same thread under different usernames 😂

So you think that any and all poster who thinks you are daft is “Laura” your husband’s ex.

oh dear. Above poster correct (and I can assure you we are not the same poster) is bang on money with “unhinged” conclusion

Sidebeforeself · 26/07/2025 15:25

Well, this thread has taken an interesting turn!

Not at all. I have disagreements on here all the time. Debating is all part and parcel of MN.

But I can distinguish between pp and you, as you seek me out on random threads start personally attacking me and then 'back yourself up' with brand new usernames on the same thread to make it look as though I am being ganged up on.

Very transparent.

Well, this thread has taken an interesting turn!

Always does with @GreenGully . Shoehorning in Reform and how wonderful the party is; getting tied up in knots in support for the death penalty; calling people who don’t want to work lazy fuckers but also waxing lyrical about being 34 and spending her life pottering and doing big tasks like “unloading a big food delivery twice a week”

oh and the icing on the cake… loads of us are Laura. The ex.

I can assure you I’m not! But….. team Laura!!
