To have reached out to someone I knew in real life?

I posted a thread last night and got a lot of good links to mental health services as I was and am still struggling with mental health.

i got a lot of great responses on my thread too.

Today I reached out to someone I knew in real life - I had known him a few years ago - I said I was struggling with mental health and outlined some reasons why. Writing it all down was very therapeutic for me.

Before I did this I was in such a bad state I was seriously contemplating doing something destructive/self destructive so I’m so glad now I reached out - it stopped me doing something worse.

I'm so pleased you have someone in IRL to support you. ❤️

Well done for letting them know you need someone right now.

Thank you - this person hasn’t responded yet but it’s saved me from doing something worse - I’m still feeling down - I’ve lost the support of someone who was messaging me online. Thanks very much for responding it means the world to me right now

So I messaged this person - but we’re in much less close contact now than we used to be - so I’m not sure he’ll respond - I haven’t seen him in person for over 13 years but I messaged to him to communicate something honestly about our previous relationship and to say k wasn’t in a very good place unfortunately because of the current lack of closeness between us I can’t say currently I’ve actually’ ‘got’ someone in real life - if you see what I mean

At least you've tried and hopefully they'll reply.

Is there anyone else you can reach put too?

If you are really struggling try 111 NHS or Samaritans on 116 123

I'm not in UK so going to bed now and won't reply again tonight. Take care.

Just checking in OP. Did you call one of the numbers?
I'll be travelling today (two long haul flights) so only have WiFi this morning for a couple of hour until back in the UK Tuesday AM.
If you haven't called anyone yet you could always try your GP too this morning.
Take care.

That's great you've got some IRL support.

Keep the numbers for future times you may need them..

Good to reach out and get stuff written down, but people might not feel able to.reply for all sorts of reasons

I recommend speaking to your GP . Mine has been brilliant.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread - just had a message back from the person I emailed - it wasn’t hostile - but was short and gave encouragement in quite a ‘generic’ way. But I haven’t lost anything as thought I’d lost everything anyway !!
