To wonder if every house in the UK has moths in this weather...?

We have a lot - killing over 30 per day. We're spraying, washing clothes at 60, freezing things that can't be washed... We're moving house in a couple of weeks and really worry about taking the issue with us. [Currently in rental, so don't know if carpets are wool or if they have wool loft insulation].

Then we went over to see our new empty house today and saw a bloody moth on the carpet there! (Brand new carpets just installed - wool, chosen before moth issue in rental - but Westex and so supposedly moth proof).

I'm freaking out.

Any advice massively appreciated!

Am I overreacting? Is it just the heatwave and everyone has this but just isn't getting so worked up about it?

A lot of moths, butterflies, leather jackets this year. As for the bloody wasps. DIL got stung two days running last weekend. Husband on the Saturday, me on Sunday 😡

We've had a lot at home as well as butterflies and I've had them in my shop a lot too, there is an influx this year due to the weather changes. They are pretty harmless so I don't know why you are killing them. Wool or not, carpet moths will eat your carpet, but as long as you vac regularly this shouldn't be a problem for you at all.

Yes I've had a lot of little moths this year and the BBC is reporting there are a lot of wasps.

Vacuum regularly? Yes, well....

I’ve never seen any. I think some areas are much worse for moths in houses than others. I don’t think it’s something everyone has.

We are getting moths, butterflies and lots of birds and a squirrel. Not seen wasps.

Not a single moth here but the windows stay closed. I have a huge moth phobia.

Ilovegoldies · 20/07/2025 00:44

Fucking wasps here. So many that I thought we had a nest. I'm evicting around 5 a day. Turns out its just very waspy this year. Our local pub is now 'WaspWorld' in honour of that wonderfully funny TripAdvisor review of legoland.

Haven't seen any moths but flies have been terrible,

some of them are definitely clothes type moths and I’m worried the lavae will
chomp through our clothes / carpet. I’ve read that each female lays up to 50 eggs across her lifetime, so as we’re already squashing over 30 per day, we’d be absolute overrun if we left them alone!

I would welcome a squirrel…!

No moths at all where I am. Or flies. Which is quite odd now I think about it as we usually get a few.

We do however have some (currently) very loud magpies. 🤷‍♀️
