Obscene text message sent to my phone with my name on it

BigBumble · 19/07/2025 22:22

Just received two text messages in a row from a random mobile number with obscene messages and pictures. Whoever sent them knew my name. Example-Hello Dawn…

Could this be a scam? I’m worried that they knew my name. Told my stbex who I’m still living with and he hardly spoke to me all evening and said it was bound to be someone I knew?! I just randomly showed him as if to say - eww look what I just got sent but I didn’t count on his reaction.

I just assumed it was a scam text that had got hold of my name and number. He acted like I had asked for it and punished me for it!

Block & delete and give it no further thought

Redrosesposies · 19/07/2025 22:25

Good job you are getting rid of that tosser. It's probably one of his mates.

BigBumble · 19/07/2025 22:27

I’ve blocked and deleted it. It was my ex’s reaction that made it worse which scared DS. I was silly to even mention it to him, he was acting like it was someone I knew that was sending me porno messages and I obviously knew them 🙄

Does anyone know how they could have got my name and number?

From his reaction, could it have been your STBEX?

LaLaLandDreams · 19/07/2025 22:44

Maybe a friend has passed your number out to a random single man.

It’s not really his style, it sounded like a scam text that gets sent to loads of numbers but it was more worrying cos they knew my name

Quite possibly.

Quite possibly.

Possibly one of his friends or family as they hate my guts!

No, they are not the type to do that.

Lots of data gets hacked or sold.

There may be lots of on-line accounts where you have entered your phone number.

It seems very personal, but there is so much information available about us "out there".

I would assume it's a scam or something similar and just delete and block.

BigBumble · 19/07/2025 22:49

I’ve signed up to a few apps recently, basically loads of companies probably know my number. Definitely spam but ex acted in a mood with me, almost like it was my fault! Instead of the normal response of just block it.

This is very very obviously either your STBEX or someone connected to him.

Huhuhuhu39272 · 19/07/2025 22:51

Yeah he has guilt written all over him

Maybe he has a blackmail kink

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 19/07/2025 22:53

I agree with PPs, your ex is behind it to give him a reason to be nasty to you. Don’t say anything else to him about it and see if he brings it up again. It might also be worth reporting it to the police.

I'm assuming he's your STBXH for a reason? Block the messages and move on. Don't give him the satisfaction of knowing you're thinking about it

Searchingforananswer2023 · 19/07/2025 22:55

Potentially the ex or a scam. Casually tell him you've logged it with the Police on 101, that should shut it down if it is him.

Huhuhuhu39272 · 19/07/2025 22:55

Good news is if it’s a blackmail kink, he may of screwed with the wrong woman ☺️

Next will be his work place

JustSawJohnny · 19/07/2025 23:09

Scam text, most likely.

Block and ignore.

Chocja · 19/07/2025 23:11

Have you searched for the contents of the text online to see if it comes up as a well known scam?

The beginning of the mobile number (the first 5 digits) is associated with scammers and has been searched up 33,000 times.

Tried putting it into WhatsApp but they are not on there.

Do you have a personalised voicemail message? I remember a court case reported regarding obscene calls. Caller knew her name from voicemail message.
