To think that 'being reasonable' is grossly overrated?

There's a whole lot of energy expended on here by people seeking opinions on whether they are being unreasonable, or not.

Sometimes I think, say or do things that I know that (some) other people would consider unreasonable, and I guess that's true for all except the sainted amongst us.

Have a good rant, by all means, but reasonable? Really? So what...?

Ah, but they don't really want to know if they are being unreasonable.... they want to be told they are perfectly reasonable and it was everyone else's fault! That's why people often say it should be renamed "I need a rant" or "I'm needy, validate me"

3andnomore · 27/05/2008 16:42

lol at I'm needy validate me....don't think it would attract many posts though...lol....

lulumama · 27/05/2008 16:43

i love being reasonable! i take a perverse delight by being incredibly reasonable in the face of complete unreasonableness!!

Doobydoo · 27/05/2008 16:44

lulumama

Doobydoo · 27/05/2008 16:45

But have to say lulumama I think you sound a tad unreasonable in your determination to be reasonable in the face of complete unreasonableness
Maybe being unreasonable is the new reasonable

Doobydoo · 27/05/2008 16:48

You could start a thread ...aibu for being so reasonableRight off to sort tea.

lulumama · 27/05/2008 16:51

It's one thing I love about the British, their tolerance and efforts to be understanding. My dear old Pa, on being told that someone he knew had stolen something, said "He must have had his reasons".

I know that we can go too far with this attitude, people can take advantage, but please don't ever give up being reasonable.

Doobydoo · 27/05/2008 17:15

Whoops just realised you had started that thread under that topic

OrmIrian · 27/05/2008 17:20

I think it's good to be reasonable. And as the many threads on this topic show, there are many different variations on the the theme of reasonable. Some of which are distintly unreasonable. Some, it has to be said, are as already mentioned, simply needy.

Anna8888 · 27/05/2008 17:22

In an ideal world, everybody would be reasonable and know how to weigh up the pros and cons of every decision for all concerned. And do so. Negotiation, compromise and cooperation are the way forward .

But we don't live in that world, and we often query our actions and those of others.
