For context i'm 46, short and until recently was a size 14 (i've lost a bit). When I was pregnant 5 years ago I bought some lovely pants. Yes, I know it's 5 years ago but they're colourful, a good make and don't cut into me. They cover my whole bum. Nowt wrong with that imo - I'm not going back to wearing thongs or uncomfortable pants - especially when it's hot. DP was going through the washing and handed me some of my clean washing and said 'here are your granny pants'. WTAF? His boxers have got holes in them with the elastic gone - and before anyone says it, he has new ones but refuses to throw the old ones out as he'll wear them in bed, great as contraception as they're awful! AIBU to be annoyed by this as he knows I'm sensitive about my weight? He's a skinny waif and struggles to put weight on where I'm still struggling with my apron from pregnancies. Should I just get rid of his clothes when he's out?!

When I was pregnant I got some plain black granny pants from Mothercare to go into hospital with as at that point I mostly wore thongs and knew I'd need something more substantial. I've been wearing them ever since, mostly as period pants or just comfy weekend type pants. They are a bit faded but the elastic is still good and in better condition that some much newer ones I have!

I did the same! Love my granny pants and take them into new relationships with me. More flattering than any g string I think. I think you need to take it as a joke and keep on with the big pants. In fact, go even bigger - knee length

Sounds like he’s having a joke/taking the oiss. I also wear ‘granny pants’ and I bloody love them! If my dh does the washing he’ll call them my cheeky thong, and there’s barely any material, worth seeing them etc. Where in reality you could probably use them as a parachute.

I was with staying my mum and sister at a family Christmas a couple of years ago and my pants were in the wash and they both fell over themselves laughing at my granny pants (and yes they used exactly this term!). They ARE called Granny pants though?! That's what I call them. DH calls them my massive knickers. Still not a dig at my size though (or at least I hope not 😂)

Granny pants refers to the style, I don't think he was making a weight comment. I've never understood it to be weight-related. I refer to my own knickers as granny pants because I've always found the kind that cover the whole bum way more comfortable (even in my early twenties). I like my knickers big and not tight.

Nothing to do with you being overweight. It is the style of pants. My teenage daughters wear them for bed when they have their period as they wear a pad too. They have always been known as granny pants.

I think ‘harvest festivals’ were actually what at least one of my GMs wore, but then they were both born around 1900.

When I was maybe 15 my maternal GM was shocked to see some teeny pretty little knickers I’d recently treated myself to (my DM never bought me any such thing.)
