Found more of your 'granny pants' WTAF??

For context i'm 46, short and until recently was a size 14 (i've lost a bit). When I was pregnant 5 years ago I bought some lovely pants. Yes, I know it's 5 years ago but they're colourful, a good make and don't cut into me. They cover my whole bum. Nowt wrong with that imo - I'm not going back to wearing thongs or uncomfortable pants - especially when it's hot. DP was going through the washing and handed me some of my clean washing and said 'here are your granny pants'. WTAF? His boxers have got holes in them with the elastic gone - and before anyone says it, he has new ones but refuses to throw the old ones out as he'll wear them in bed, great as contraception as they're awful! AIBU to be annoyed by this as he knows I'm sensitive about my weight? He's a skinny waif and struggles to put weight on where I'm still struggling with my apron from pregnancies. Should I just get rid of his clothes when he's out?!

Size is irrelevant....it's just the style. I converted to granny pants when I was first pregnant and there's been no waiver in my love since then....27 years now 😂 I was the first in my friendship group to have a baby. When people asked me for advice I would suggest the biggest knickers they could find! One of my friends husband asked her when her pants would return to 'normal', after pregnancy, and the answer was never.

limescale · 17/07/2025 10:26

Isn't Granny Pants just a light hearted term for full knickers?
If anyone should be offended it would be all the grannies.

AlwaysAnExcuseForEverything · 17/07/2025 10:29

Hahaha omg what it with men hanging on to their obscene hole-ridden underwear? My husband is exactly the same. When I'm putting away laundry I struggle to shut his underwear drawer because it's so full, and most of it is just fit for the bin. He's always saying he'll have a sort out. I could do it myself but I just can't be arsed.

P.S. I haven't moved on from the full briefs I started wearing in pregnancy. I've lost a stone over the last few months and now they feel comfier than ever 😂

Rewis · 17/07/2025 10:32

That's just what they are called. Nothing to do with age or weight or anything.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/07/2025 10:33

Very occasionally, when I’ve run out of clean pants, I’ve borrowed a pair of dh’s Y fronts. OMG, so comfortable!

IberianBlackout · 17/07/2025 10:44

Granny pants aren’t weight related, they’re waist rise related. I think you’re just being touchy (and I say this as someone who refuses to put them on in front of my very fit bf considering I’m a size 16.

Hankunamatata · 17/07/2025 10:46

Wear granny pants with pride. Comfort, bum coverage. Bliss

WitchesofPainswick · 17/07/2025 10:48

It's not like he handed them to you and said "Does Trunky want a bun?"

They ARE granny pants. WEAR AND BE PROUD.

ObliviousCoalmine · 17/07/2025 10:49

It’s big pants or bust. I care not.

justasking111 · 17/07/2025 10:52

I've just thrown out my lacy knickers. Been sitting at the back of my knicker drawer for years now. Granny pants for me.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/07/2025 10:56

How many normal blokes do you see wearing thongs-!! A day of it and that would be it

Tollington · 17/07/2025 10:56

Apple catchers

DH asked me why I wore such big knickers and made a quip - I held them up next to his boxers and showed they were in fact MUCH smaller. I referred to him wearing "grandpa pants" and "acres of knickers" for a few days and he's kept his trap shut since 😂

Yea I've always wondered why women's full coverage pants are 'granny pants' but almost all mens pants are full coverage

Imagine if we expected men to always wear 'sexy' thong type pants

Glitchymn1 · 17/07/2025 11:03

Have always loved granny pants. Even when I was a size 8, twenty year old.
I’ve always referred to them as such 😆

FamBae · 17/07/2025 11:03

If my dh had his way I'd be trotting around all day in a red crutchless thong 😂

Libertysparkle · 17/07/2025 11:04

My eldest daughter is 10 and I still have mine! Comfort is key! My DH the same brand new pants but wears the holey ones!

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 17/07/2025 11:05

I can not imagine putting my middle aged arse in a thong. Now that would be a turn off.

Dinosaurus86 · 17/07/2025 11:12

I’ve never stopped wearing my maternity ones - they’re great. I bought them when pregnant with DS 4 years ago and have also had DD one year ago. They were expensive and have worn well. Without a bump they go up to my bra, which is great! Covers my stomach when bf DD. DH has threadbare pants with holes and broken elastic. He hasn’t mentioned mine so far…

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 17/07/2025 11:15

I buy and wear what I am comfortable in.
Can you imagine if we only wore the kind of underwear that would please most men?
Have you seen men's pants?

Icanttakethisanymore · 17/07/2025 11:20

People of any size can have granny pants too. I don't think he was commenting on your body.

Highlighta · 17/07/2025 11:23

It was just a lighthearted throw away comment most likely.

Anyway, I call these my pah pah pants.

When the wind catches them when they are on the line, they go pah pah in the wind..

Lavender14 · 17/07/2025 11:28

I wouldn't see this as any descriptor or criticism of you in the least- it's just a slang name for a style of pants with fuller coverage, usually higher waisted and more coverage in the bum.

I also enjoy that style of brief and got some when I was on maternity that I still wear now especially around my period when comfort is important. I mentally refer to them as my granny pants or my period pants. Mine are black and boring though, yours sound much more exciting and I also kind of want to know where you got them!

I don't think there's anything to be annoyed about here unless he was nasty in his tone when he said it.

Berlinlover · 17/07/2025 11:40

After my hysterectomy, stoma surgery and chemo I weighed seven stone and lived in granny pants. My partner and I laughed about them but they were so comfortable I didn’t care.

Zezet · 17/07/2025 11:53

Sorry, but those are Granny pants and would be even if they were in a size four.

Also not nice to lash out at him in response to being unhappy at how he described a (commonly described as such) style of underwear.

If it bothers you that you are wearing so-called granny pants, you can always buy a thong.

justasking111 · 17/07/2025 12:03

Friends and I over a girls night out many years ago all admitted to having black period pants. They were always full briefs for security.

The lacy bits and pieces were for seduction. 😂
