I have a job , a career , that has progression. Absolutely love my job but I have a lot of debt. I only work term time so would love to find something, not too time consuming , that I could do on the side during holidays . But not an actual job.

I’ve done a few “ side hustles “ in the past , made a bit extra around Christmas making Christmas gifts. I’m quite handy with design, so I did used to have a small business making stationary but this was during uni when I had more time. I don’t have the space for that now either.

Every time I look online I see surveys or digital marketing and I’m not interested in that. Surveys I’ve made maybe £30 - that’s not enough.

Im not looking for MLM or any get rich quick scheme - does anyone have any advice ?

I've tried :

  • Amazon Flex - I’m on the waiting list
  • Pay per text message - it was just sex talk and it was misleading people so I’m not into it
  • Tutoring - too much time , most people want you in the evening and I can’t commit

Not willing -

  • actual jobs - bar work, care etc - I don’t have the time to commit to set shifts , I have children and I also want to enjoy my time off
  • Mystery shopping / market research - it’s not reliable and I am signed up to loads already anyway and get nothing
  • Cashback - I don’t need to spend anymore
  • switching banks - I have a massive overdraft that I live in
  • Dog walking - too many in my area
  • Ironing - not a thing where I live and also I’m awful at it
  • Matched betting
I’m looking for something I could do with my children around- a hobby I could turn into a venture , I would deliver leaflets etc but I can’t find anything like that .

What about freelance jobs in the content making field? Look up "Video/Photo editor for hire" posts online if you're good with editing programs. If you don't have those skills but you like the idea, start from getting familiar with various software like professional slideshow makers, programs for photo editing, video editing apps, etc. It'll take some time and practice, but once you're there (or if you already have some skills) you can post your own ads on Facebook or Reddit. Some people work consistently with photographers and videographers as their assistants for editing, so that could be a good way as well. You'll certainly be able to do this with your kids around, but make sure you can concentrate properly.

We have a, cat sitting company that we use. They come in twice a day for 20 mins at a time and although there is a morning and evening visit, it isn't a time of their choosing. Plus, Op doesn't actually want to work

I'm actually a cat sitter hence my suggestion of it. Clearly services may vary - Most of my clients only want 1 visit a day, and I spend a similar amount of time in total - 35-40 minutes (sometimes a bit longer if a cat is very cute). Quite a lot of them have food on timers though.

Never thought of cat sitting ! Would be happy to do that .

I did a kind of print on demand service before - wall prints mainly , but it seemed to really drop off once Christmas was over .

i was thinking about printing cake toppers , logos etc . But I’m hesitant to spend money on a printer and then it not work out .

I didn't mean that you do the printing on demand! I meant that they get an instant pdf that they can get printed themselves. You just design a template. You could customise so they get their own version. E.g. custom stationery, 'Mr & Mrs [name]' etc. Though for a truly passive income you don't want to customise too much.

Red Bubble - upload your designs and they'll print on t-shirts, mugs etc. It means you can work worldwide with no trips to the post office.
Great that you've done wall prints before - so hopefully you still have the good reviews on e.g. Etsy? Wall prints are usually a present so naturally given at Christmas, you need to think year-round. Think of pop culture, memes, back to school, royal events, Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day, niche interests etc. Have a browse of bestsellers.

You could contact event organisers and set up to do craft services e.g. weddings, special birthdays etc. Easy to create things at a time of your choosing. I've no idea how much it gets paid though.

sorry you missunderstand, say if you bank with santander already, all you need to do is open an account with a random bank such as barclays, and then close the barclays account down by switching it into the one that has the switchign bonus.

the only requirement is usually 1000 paid in within 30 days and sometimes 2 direct debtis for which you can use

Thank you so much x

There's loads of apps to enable you to get into the gig economy.

My DD is doing cat sitting, it's not well paid but she likes doing it. She's on the Cat In a Flat site (other sites exist).

I rent out a car parking space I don't use. Again, not well paid but better than nothing. Just Park or Your Parking Space are two sites to look at.

Where can you sell feet photos? I have pretty feet (the only part that is!) and I'd like to do this!

OF! Lol, there's a market for EVERYTHING!

KnickerlessParsons · 16/07/2025 07:59

Could you child mind in the holidays only?

Key word on eBay "trashed" teacher shoes. Smellier the better. Pervs love em.

The world never ceases to mystify me.

Off to Google 'teacher shoes'.

What about an Etsy shop selling your handmade wares throughout the year?

Holiday pet feeding? Cats/fish/chickens etc where you do your rounds twice a day. Could involve the kids too

BasicBrumble · 16/07/2025 22:36

Holiday pet feeding sounds best with a term time job. If you have any neighbourhood groups, people might also be looking for plant watering while they're on holiday. I've paid local kids to water mine before.

I'm a casual celebrant with the local council. I can do as many or as few weddings as I like. Very busy in the summer holidays. Pays £65 a wedding plus mileage. Something to consider

Hello, how did you get into this please?

Notmyreality · 17/07/2025 06:45

This won’t be popular on MN but I do OnlyFans on top of my normal job. Brings in about £1000/mth on average. Have been doing it for several years now building up a following and at the point where it ticks along with only a few updates needed a week. Doesn’t take a lot of effort at all.

Hospitality work.

Secretsquirels · 17/07/2025 06:53

How about SEN babysitting over the summer? With your kids coming along too?

Most working families with SEN kids really struggle over the summer holidays if they can’t use the regular kids clubs and would love someone experienced and knowledgeable to hang out with their kid for a week.

Id also rethink tutoring offering something like 6 sessions per child across the summer as a package to work on one specific thing eg times tables or spelling.

I make on average £100-130 a month on market research/ survey sites so I think you've been quite quick to rule this out.
Can you sell anything on eBay?
Also search for the Earn £10 a day threads on here where there may be some more ideas.

How?

I've tried a few but they were all paying pennies per (long) survey🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

KaitlynnFairchild · 17/07/2025 07:00

Sign up for medical research, some of them pay thousands.

To make that kind of money she will literally be spending hours and hours online a day.

what people who actually make money doing these things don’t tell you, or even realise sometimes is that when they break it down they’re only making pennies an hour doing it.

added to which a lot of the online stuff is now being taken over by AI.

Soz quoting myself - I wanted to add, there's a lot of people on tik tok who will guide you on this however honestly chat gpt is as helpful. Ask chat gpt about copy and paste trade signals, get set up on Zulu Trade and have a bot do it for you. I discovered this through a woman on tik tok called Laura Olivia Severn, it seemed to good to be true but it's not! Dm me if you need a hand.

Okay I just checked this on chat GPT and it’s high risk and the OP could lose all her money or get scammed. You shouldn’t be suggesting stuff like this to hard up mums.
