I have a job , a career , that has progression. Absolutely love my job but I have a lot of debt. I only work term time so would love to find something, not too time consuming , that I could do on the side during holidays . But not an actual job.

I’ve done a few “ side hustles “ in the past , made a bit extra around Christmas making Christmas gifts. I’m quite handy with design, so I did used to have a small business making stationary but this was during uni when I had more time. I don’t have the space for that now either.

Every time I look online I see surveys or digital marketing and I’m not interested in that. Surveys I’ve made maybe £30 - that’s not enough.

Im not looking for MLM or any get rich quick scheme - does anyone have any advice ?

I've tried :

  • Amazon Flex - I’m on the waiting list
  • Pay per text message - it was just sex talk and it was misleading people so I’m not into it
  • Tutoring - too much time , most people want you in the evening and I can’t commit

Not willing -

  • actual jobs - bar work, care etc - I don’t have the time to commit to set shifts , I have children and I also want to enjoy my time off
  • Mystery shopping / market research - it’s not reliable and I am signed up to loads already anyway and get nothing
  • Cashback - I don’t need to spend anymore
  • switching banks - I have a massive overdraft that I live in
  • Dog walking - too many in my area
  • Ironing - not a thing where I live and also I’m awful at it
  • Matched betting
I’m looking for something I could do with my children around- a hobby I could turn into a venture , I would deliver leaflets etc but I can’t find anything like that .

Have you any idea what becoming a childminder actually involves?

In fairness the poster probably means babysitting for cash not starting up a whole self - employed business.

You work term time therefore you do not work full time.

You do work full time, teaching students with SEN. Thank you for your service!

coffeeandmycats · 15/07/2025 22:11

Have you considered starting a youtube channel? if you got popular you could monetize it

SleepyLemur · 15/07/2025 22:14

This may be a really stupid idea, but you said you couldn't tutor, as would be in evening when you need to be with your kids. Could you therefore tutor in a different time zone? For example, East Coast of US once your kids were in bed, but still a decent time for you. May he a silly idea. Other thoughts exam marking if you are a teacher. Hosting forgein exchange students. I thought the idea of holiday child care or clubs others mentioned excellent if you could get if sorted. Could you set up a Saturday class or tutor on a Saturday? Selling craft kits. Kids party entertaining. Sure you have thought through all these options. Good luck!

Copy and paste trade signals Op, I cba to explain it cos I'm rubbish at explaining but there's loads on Tik Tok and Chat GPT can help you with it. Please actually give it a go without dismissing it, it's life changing

Is the catsitting market as saturated as the dog walking one? You normally visit once a day at a time of your choosing for about 35 minutes, play with cat, feed, scoop poo. Earns about £10-11 a visit if you're new to the market. Very popular around bank holidays.

Print on demand/pdf selling via Etsy, Red Bubble etc. Requires churning out designs at the start, but could give you a regular passive income eventually.

We have a, cat sitting company that we use. They come in twice a day for 20 mins at a time and although there is a morning and evening visit, it isn't a time of their choosing. Plus, Op doesn't actually want to work

"Fostering"
This is a ridiculous suggestion. I imagine there's a lengthy process to become approved and you can't just casually dip in and out when you fancy making a few bob.

OP does already work and asked for advice on a way to earn a little extra that isn’t an extra job with set shifts etc. PP you quoted was giving helpful advice .

Soz quoting myself - I wanted to add, there's a lot of people on tik tok who will guide you on this however honestly chat gpt is as helpful. Ask chat gpt about copy and paste trade signals, get set up on Zulu Trade and have a bot do it for you. I discovered this through a woman on tik tok called Laura Olivia Severn, it seemed to good to be true but it's not! Dm me if you need a hand.

Small pets holiday care eg rabbits etc come to your garden in their hutch.

Babysitting.

coffeeandmycats · 15/07/2025 22:37

have you considered adult bike riding lessons for people at the local park?

13planets · 15/07/2025 22:46

I would love to find someone who offered local “bunny minding” services - basically someone to come into my garden twice per day when I’m on vacation and feed the bunnies, sweep them out and change their water. I’d pay £12 a day for that (it would be about 30mins effort per day).

13planets · 15/07/2025 22:47

@Unexpectedlysinglemum no one should be keeping rabbits in a portable hutch - they need lots of space to stretch and run.

Hamsters, gerbils, okay.

coffeeandmycats · 15/07/2025 22:53

can you do magic tricks for kids parties maybe? or be a clown

No you’re not I would 100% do it if I knew how!

You need to sell your knickers on a site called
” all things worn “

you would be amazed at the stuff men will by
buy a pack of 10 pants from primark where them and flog em
tights especially American Tan ones 😆 if you send a photo of you wearing them with them are popular

webcam/ phone chat is another way of making fairly decent money if your broad minded

If OP wants less R rated methods she could also start a book reading club and charge for entry

Please don’t pretend to know my life , I have not ran up debt with “ good times “.

I am not looking for an actual job because I work full time as it is. I am thinking more of small businesses - a hobby I could turn in to a little bit of extra cash. It is possible as I have done it before , so I was asking for advice on anything similar

You need a debt repayment plan, however it happened

My daughter does this , she started helping friends in the school holidays and now does it at weekends as she works now.

Confusedmeanderings · 16/07/2025 00:40

I know you've ruled out mystery shopping, but I would consider giving it a go. The fees aren't as good as they used to be, but you can still make a bit of money. You do need to sign up to every mystery shopping company you can find and then check their job boards regularly. The trick is to try and find assignments geographically close together so that you can do them all easily without too much travel.

To be fair, sugar Daddy's can pay you to exist 😂(joking!) the only thing I can think of that isn't ruled out on this list is like selling feet pics😭

Where can you sell feet photos? I have pretty feet (the only part that is!) and I'd like to do this!

I’m a lecturer and have two side hustles. Might either of these be any use?

My subject helps here as I teach mainly digital marketing (as well as more traditional advertising, PR etc) - I manage social media for a local business. I actually love doing it, and it “keeps my hand in” in terms of doing what I teach.

The other thing is writing and credit rating for our qualifications body. This is more ad-hoc but pays very well. I have a contract coming to refresh a module which will pay £500 pre-tax. It goes in bursts - last summer I think I did two modules, but the summer before was four, a couple of which were double credits (so twice the fee). I also “vet” for other writers - basically checking it meets standards - which pays a lot less but is usually easy money. Credit rating is making sure modules are at the right level for the student group/award and is time consuming but tends to pay very well, especially if the modules are for training providers. It’s often over summer but not always.

Much, much more ad-hoc, but I am on the reader panel for Hearst Magazines and do lots of market research stuff. Again, it’s relevant for my subject, and I find it interesting. A focus group or week long study can pay £100ish (but is usually eg Amazon vouchers rather than money) and is easy to do. I often get sent products to try before they go on sale and can be one of the “74% of women said…” you see on ads.
