AIBU or did this man overreact

Quite often where we live people would say a quick passing hello to strangers, people will say it back or not, no big deal. I am one who 9 times out of 10 would say it back and to preface have had plenty not say it back to me.
Today me and my husband took the dog round the block. We came to a narrow lane where I could see a man approaching with his dog. I walked on about 3 steps ahead of my husband and our dog to make room, man was then between me and husband and said hello. I assumed as I was that but ahead he was speaking to my husband as they were practically beside each other at this point.
My husband said what did he say to you and I said "I heard him said hello but I assumed as he had already passed me he was talking to you." husband said the man said to him "fucking hell, her heads up in the clouds good luck."

AIBU to think it's really not that big of a deal and he overreacted? For all he could have know I was hard of hearing.

Ignore and move on. This doesn’t deserve your head space.

What a d*ck!
this is in the category of the man in a van shouting out the window to me (pedestrian) “cheer up love, it might never happen”. I got this a lot. Thankfully now as a middle aged woman, I’m invisible to that type of man and it no longer happens!

Same. Got it a lot in my 20s (in the 80s !). I turned round and told one bloke my father had just died (in fact several months prior). He soon apologised and I hope he never did it again !

He was just embarrassed in front of your DH because it looked like he's been blanked by you. A fragile ego and an overreaction from him but probably quite rude if you to walk that close to someone on a narrow path and not acknowledge them.
