Stop using CHATGPT on MN!!

EternalLodga · 14/07/2025 06:32

Ive seen so many threads recently where the OP has a problem, and a poster goes:
"Here's what ChatGPT said:"
Followed by a copy and paste.

OMFG! Its so boring! We come on MN to get real opinions and ideas from real people.

Ditto with "cutesy", selfconciously "amusing" posts, like: "I asked ChatGPT to write a poem about this, here's what it came up with:"

Stop! Those "here's a funny limerick/poem" posts were hard to stomach back when they were written by the actual human. But clogging up a thread with 20 robot-generated lines of guff? Nah.

OP posts:
Jumpthewaves · 14/07/2025 06:33

I agree, also if op had wanted a ChatGPT response then they probably wouldn't have posted on mumsnet.

Bread121bread · 14/07/2025 06:34

I love chatgpt. That is my human opinion.

FfaCoff · 14/07/2025 06:38

People are obsessed with it on here aren't they? It's the new 'i asked my husband and he said...'

Also, can people stop calling it ChatgBt

stayathomer · 14/07/2025 06:41

I think it’s like a new toy anc people are judt a bit obsessed by it but yes a huge long ream is pretty annoying and in most cases I’ve seen more than the op needs

DiscoBeat · 14/07/2025 06:43

First time I've ever seen a 100% YANBU!

cyvguhb · 14/07/2025 06:45

I agree, and the OPs written by chatgpt in a wall of text

Whats the betting someone will post a "humourous" response to this thread by AI

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/07/2025 06:46

YANBU. The environmental effects of this is huge too, yet people treat it like a fun (although inaccurate) toy.

BabyCatFace · 14/07/2025 06:47

I agree. I love ChatGPT and use it all the time but it's not a human and if I go on mumsnet it's because I want to chat to humans I don't know on my phone not to an AI.

Whoever thinks it will be funny to do a ChatGPT response to this post - rethink. It won't be funny or original.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 14/07/2025 06:47

Yup. It’s spam, it should be treated as such on here.

Magnir · 14/07/2025 06:50

The posts are always long and rambling.

hiintrepidheroes · 14/07/2025 06:54

The worst thing is when people say they use it to check facts etc.

ChatGPT lies and makes stuff up when it can’t find an answer. It’s for lazy people, never used it myself and find the AI response at the top of every Google search infuriating.

Mandoidi · 14/07/2025 07:00

Agree!
I scrolled past a chatgpt answer last night thinking the exact same thing.
I don't think it was a problem that needed 'research' either.
(And tbh, if something does need research, chatgpt can't really be relied on anyway)

OurBeautifulBaby · 14/07/2025 07:03

I also scrolled past a ChatGPT answer last night and thought the same thing.

You've not quite got that right. ChatGPT doesn't lie, occasionally it hallucinates and occasionally forgets things. It's an incredible tool but shouldn't be used as the oracle. It's as correct as the information on the internet can make it. It's like talking to someone with PHD level intelligence who has read everything on the internet - that hypothetical person can still make a mistake. It's not the same thing as google AI summaries. It's not for 'lazy people' and you're not obliged to use it but surely you can see that as it's something you have no understanding of your perspective is not accurate?

givingitupok · 14/07/2025 07:04

Ever used LinkedIn? 😅 It's basically computers talking to each other!

EternalLodga · 14/07/2025 07:05

Yeah I thought as soon as I hit post we would get a tittering ChatGPT response. So far so good though!

Ive noticed some people are starting to use it to reply to OPs. So like someone will post in Relationships, and a poster will reply something along the lines of: "[...] What hurts isn't the anger--it's the disappointment. When you've tried for so long, sometimes you need to let go. And that's okay."
You know what I mean - a bullshit longwinded faux chatty reply with shit loads of em dashes and snappy oneliners and it just reeks of AI.

Have you used the 03 model? It really can be used for research. It's as good as a PHD level human researcher.

StMarie4me · 14/07/2025 07:06

Quite agree. And stop and think about the environmental impact. It’s huge, btw, for your cutesy poem. And don’t get me started on AI “art”- it’s just stealing human artists’ work! It can’t create it.

in the next 10 years they are planning 500 AI data centres in the UK. If you think the national grid can’t cope now, imaging what it’ll be like then?

but go on- you create your little meme and keep your head in the sand.

Ever used LinkedIn? 😅 It's basically computers talking to each other!

On my LinkedIn its 50% AI-generated posts, 50% human posts that start: "AI isn't going to replace us in the workforce. Here's why 👇"

Ive stopped scrolling on LinkedIn now, I just head on every now and then to see if anyone's tried ro connect with me. imo LinkedIn needs to seriously up its game as its expensive and possibly becoming obsolete. There's probably room in the market for a new professional platform that is literally just a business card: so a really aesthetically pleasing platform where you swap digital business cards and thats it

Where is it getting information from? Does it have access to archives and to subscription journals?

INeedAnotherName · 14/07/2025 07:18

I agree OP. It's becoming the new "try googling it instead of asking here". I also 100% agree with the pp who said it was a lazy way to post.

And don't get me started on the environmental impact it causes, it's absolutely frightening.

They pay to licence some paywalled content but not all, and it is trained on all publicly available data
