What time is okay to ask neighbours to keep it down?

I completely get that its the hottest day of the year and people are enjoying it, thats fine and lovely. My neighbours are shouting, yelling, drunkenly singing, playing really loud music. When is okay to ask them to keep it down? I have kids that keep being woken up and I'd like to go to sleep soon too to be up for work tomorrow at 6am.

I’d hope they would quieten down at 11. That always seems reasonable to me. If a special event, then midnight.

Sunflowers776 · 12/07/2025 22:24

Okay maybe (hopefully) 11pm then.

I probably wouldn't. My neighbours are outside now and I can hear them. It's hot, they have friends over. They're good neighbours. If it's all the time, probably 11.

Friday and saturday night - id say midnight.

alexalisten · 12/07/2025 22:30

Depends if its a one of or a nightly thing. A one of id let them get on with it and enjoy their night. If this is happening nightly id be saying something

ItsBella · 13/07/2025 08:09

If it's a one off or very infrequent, I wouldn't say anything. Otherwise midnight on Fri/Sat or other days 11.

If mine have a party it’s rare so I just suck it up!

My usually nice neighbours must have gone away Friday night cos their teenage son had a gathering where I could hear their noise at gone midnight so had to sleep with the windows shut and be really hot., at 3.30 am I woke up thinking great now I can open my window, but nooo they had loud music still playing! I was furious but did nothing about it as the parents are good neighbours and we never had an issue before so hope its a one off

Same. Our neighbours are great and they usually have parties maybe 3-4 times a year. I just put ear plugs in. We live next door to them with 3 small children who often wake in the night and start the day at 6am making a ton of noise despite our best efforts to keep them quiet. So we are just really grateful to have such good neighbours tbh.

I would say 11.00. Any night as people don't only work M-F. But we have nice neighbours and I wouldn't want to upset them. Staying with friends, their neighbour was chatting loudly on the 'phone to someone past midnight, so the following morning I was up with the lark playing a loud game with the dogs.

Ours were in the garden at 7.45 am screaming and shouting . . . Ffs what is the matter with people . . . entitled pricks

WaitedBlankey · 13/07/2025 08:27

After midnight on a weekend, after 11 when it’s a work night .

bettbburg · 13/07/2025 08:50

9-10pm.

Cucy · 13/07/2025 08:59

On a weekend I would say midnight.
And then not before 9am.

During the week I’d say 10pm and then not before 8am.

Cucy · 13/07/2025 09:01

It would also depend on how often it happens.

If they’re he weakly good neighbours and usually quiet, then I’d suck up a birthday party going on until the early hours but if they’re regularly just out in the garden being loud then it would annoy me more.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 13/07/2025 09:02

On a Saturday night I wouldn't complain about the noise at 10pm, possibly midnight or anything excessive after midnight.

RaininSummer · 13/07/2025 09:18
  1. People in the road behind me were very loud past 1 am on Friday and I had to be up at.630 for work. People shouldn't assume everyone works mon to fri or 9 to 5.
