in watching U2 singing Sunday Bloody Sunday, on its own an epic song, being broadcast across the world on a day that used music to bring everyone together.

yes there are elements of white saviour going on (well lots) but fuck me the music was amazing

Yabu - it was epic
yabun - it was white saviour colonial Britain at its peak

It was both. I watched some earlier. Paul Young was fabulous as was Bryan Ferry; Sting, Phil Collins, ; Howard Jones - major ego vibes going on there.

I remember it as a great moment. All those ‘stars’ from both sides of the Atlantic , doing their thing, for what we thought was a great cause. Yes, the concept had problems, but we had watched Michael Buerk in Ethiopia , and this felt like we were doing something.
The intentions were good, and hindsight gives us an alternative view.

Personally (i was 15 and should have been gripped) I found it dull and sanctimonious. Me and my mates watched about an hour and did something else.

I came in to Geldolfs rant about people give money and thought why aren't you pal. You're the rich rock.star. We are on benefits, my best mates mum has just died and he had to borrow a pair of shoes for the funeral. So dont come the fucking etc put yer own hand in your pocket.

You are being unreasonable to use the phrase white saviour as it only became a popular term much later.
