Name issue

RFRose · 12/07/2025 13:07

I’m currently expecting my second child and if it’s a boy one of our favourite names is Leo.

The only issue is that our first son is called Raphael, and I’m worried it will be too ‘teenage mutant ninja turtles.’

My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous but I’m not sure. So AIBU for worrying about the turtle connection?

OP posts:

Children his age at school won't link them so I think it will be fine.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 12/07/2025 17:10

They're lovely names. The turtle connection wouldn't occur to me.

EdenFromTheEast · 12/07/2025 17:11

I think they go lovely together. I share my name with a Pokemon character which Millennials usually pick up on, but younger people don't know the reference.

InMyOpenOnion · 12/07/2025 17:15

To be honest, I think it's Donatello and Michaelangelo that are more obviously "turtley". I doubt anyone would make much of a connection, especially with Leo being a generally popular name at the moment.

sarsaparillatree · 12/07/2025 17:16

My first thought for Raphael was archangels, but I went to a convent school 😁 Now if you'd chosen Gabriel rather than Leo...

I suppose the names together make me think of star constellations, not sure why?

teksquad · 12/07/2025 17:17

yeah I wouldn't have remembered that the 4th one was called Leo ..

LowDownBoyStandUpGuy · 12/07/2025 17:19

It’s Leonardo though isn’t it so not exactly the same, it wouldn’t even cross my mind (and I loved TMNT)

Pancakeflipper · 12/07/2025 17:20

Hopefully no turtle revival will occur. But I didn't make the connection between names (I'd need all names to get it)

TurboKirbo · 12/07/2025 17:21

It's not as if it's Leonardo. I didn't immediately make the connection.

I feel your pain though, I have a Thomas & DH veto'd the lovely name Henry as 'Im not naming them all after tank engines'.

Leo is a great name.

teksquad · 12/07/2025 17:26

yeah just hope for no turtles remake 😄

Even then Leo, not Leonardo so not sure if make the connection.

My friend named her baby Alexa shortly before Amazon released the Alexas ...

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2025 17:31

I doubt the turtles will have a renaissance. Or, for that matter that the Renaissance will.

DrinkReprehensibly · 12/07/2025 17:36

Sounds fine to me. Lean into it and name your pets Mike and Don.

Reminds me of a friend who named her DD Elsa about two months before Frozen came out.

As long as your not called April, and your partner called Splinter, you should be OK

Parents might. I definitely did (I remember when they were the teenage mutant hero turtles). But do you really care, OP?

Swiftie1878 · 12/07/2025 18:22

I would IMMEDIATELY think of turtles 😂
Sorry.

justtootiredtoday · 12/07/2025 18:24

I would definitely think of the Turtles, but I don’t think it’s much of an issue.

Laiste · 12/07/2025 18:24

We were going to call DD4 Leo 😊 Lovely choice.

Personally i wouldn't be able to name the ninja turtles. DH prob would. But honestly - of those who could, how many are going to ever see both your kids names written down together ?

Friends might notice and you can have a laugh about it once and that'll be the end of it.

forgotmyusername1 · 12/07/2025 18:25

How about Leon?

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 12/07/2025 18:26

Use Leon instead if you're worried about the teenage mutant ninja turtles association.

Mimsykins · 12/07/2025 18:27

Turtles here too! You could dress them in the corresponding colours too, make a theme of it.

Please tell me your name is Eevee… as I think a Bulbasaur would raise eyebrows from more than just millennials.

Or Squirtle! 😁

shirtyshirt · 12/07/2025 18:40

The turtles have had a resurgence, my 7yr old plays with them. However I don't think you hear those names & think turtles.

shirtyshirt · 12/07/2025 18:41

I doubt the turtles will have a renaissance.

there was a new film in 23 & they are doing a sequel....
