Laxido help!!

Tarytino · 12/07/2025 09:10

I have chronic constipation - normally take bisocodyl once a week but I know it’s not healthy so I’m trying to break my reliance on them. Pharmacy gave me laxido and recommended starting on 8 sachets a day. I drank 8 yesterday - I am now shitting brown water. Literally, there is no thickness to it, it’s literally water.

Now clearly the 8 sachets worked but what now?! Pharmacy said consistency is key and I need to continue a maintenance dose of 3 a day once the 8 sachets take effect. Does that mean I need to drink another 3 today even though I have severe diarrhoea?? The instructions does not say what to do in these circumstances!

Stop taking and contact your pharmacist

Be careful that the water you are passing could be overflow and that there isn’t a blockage. As recommended above I’d contact your pharmacist

my dr prescribed one sachet a day

Sounds like it's effective. So, yes, take 3 today. If you're still pooing brown liquid tomorrow, reduce to 2.

If you've been chronically constipated you won't recover instantly. Your colon needs to recover its tone, which generally takes as long as you were constipated for.

No, you can take up to 8 a day if really constipated, like not been for 7 days, you can put 8 in a jug at once and drink it steadily over a few hours. However, do you feel like your constipation has been relieved? Watery stools could be overflow meaning you still have solid stool in your rectum….. have you considered seeing a gp for a PR exam if this might be the case?
alternatively 8 may have just been way too many, and if your rectum is empty then stop till things settle and then it is a case of trial and error as to what will keep you regular, could be 1 sachet a day, half a sachet, 2, could be 1 or too twice a day etc …… I’m a nurse and prescribe these a lot

Bridal switch to a different pharmacist…. The advise usually is to steadily ramp up the dose until you get action then use a maintenance level. Straight to 8 was madness!

8 a day is for impaction; 3 a day is pushing it; 1 a day does me.

Take no more for now since you are empty. When things return to normal, try say 2 a day. Be vigilant to keep hydrated in this warm weather since you are losing fluid from your bowel.

Don’t take anymore today if you’re shitting water. Personally I’d give it a miss for a few days after this and then try 2/3 sachets a day and see how you go. Personally 3 sachets makes me feel quite unwell and that’s my sweet spot for either getting rid of the constipation or tipping me over into watery shite. I could never take 8, I would be so unwell but that’s just me. Generally I take Fybogel sachets regularly instead as that’s more gentle but I suppose it depends how severe your issue is.

MinnieGirl · 12/07/2025 09:41

Gp’s prescribe 8 sachets for total clearout. But you also need to drink loads of water, and especially in this heat. As others have said, phone the pharmacy for advice or look online.
