What the hell happened to McDonald’s ?

Last night on the way home we popped into a Maccies drive thru . I haven’t been for months due to the Monday app deals being rubbish anyway the food was disgusting . The worst I’ve ever had from a McDonald’s , The filet o fish had blatantly been recooked as the fish had fries attached to the chewy as a boot batter and the cheese burger was from dinner time I think judging by how stale it was . My mate said hers the night before from her local one had been warmed up aswell …

But seriously the prices ?!! How can they justify it ! £2.19 for a mayo chicken or a cheese burger now (used to be 99p!) and the arch meal starts from £10.99 !!!
even the slush I had from a different maccies earlier in the day was just liquid and £3.19 !

McDonalds used to be a cheap and quick treat . How have the prices gone up so much and so quickly !!!

Do you still go to McDonald’s ? Has the standards dropped or something because I’ve never experienced such awful food .

That’s illegal- employers are not allowed to make deductions - especially for things like uniform - that will take the pay below NMW

I can’t speak for all McDonald’s, but a woman I know owns around 20 McDonalds in the south and has to pay quite a lot more than minimum wage wage for staff…I think she said £14 an hour, so the government’s increase intax on employment has hit her even harder. It’s been almost entirely funded by reducing headcount and is why there’s been an explosion in self service order points in-store, and a push to orders via the app.

aGirlLikeJesamine · 12/07/2025 09:12

i think i might have popped in for some sort of ice coffee with dd

LynetteScavo · 12/07/2025 09:19

The kids who work there don’t pay for their uniform, but neither do they get new uniform very often, so they better not grow between the ages of 16-18.
The quality of the food depends on the particular stores a new store with all new equipment and a shift manager who knows what they’re doing will have decent food- I’m particular about which MacDonalds I go to around here.

Yes the prices are quite high now. I remember when I used to feed myself and 3 DC for little more than £10. Now it cost me about that just for my lunch.

My biggest complaint is that the Diet Coke always tastes like it’s got a bit of Sprite in it, which it probably has.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 12/07/2025 09:20

Gah this is just making me want another big arch but I’m laid up in bed so need to eat healthy. Damn you. Not the point of the thread but I do love a McDonald’s and now I’m craving it. Ps haven’t noticed prices going up because it’s still cheap when you think about it

A thousand times this!😡

To be honest I’d never have a milkshake - or ice cream - from McDonalds - or from any fast food place - because one hears all kinds of stories of them not cleaning the machines regularly…

MaloryJones · 12/07/2025 09:33

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 12/07/2025 00:39

The poor kids who work there pay for their own uniform out of their shit wages.

Or mine did anyway, I'm not sure if all franchises are run the same way.

Mine had to buy his.
Bromley Mcdonalds that one.

Outside9 · 12/07/2025 09:38

McDonald's is absolute trash, overpriced, carcinogenic food.

No one who cares about themselves or their loved ones should be eating it.

Unless in exceptional desperate circumstances.

I say this as someone who grew up eating it. It's trash.

babasaclover · 12/07/2025 09:04

It’s £2.79 not £4.50. You wouldn’t get a portion. Of chips in our local chippy for that!

£2.79 for a happy meal?! Where do you live? It’s £4.39 for one where I am and don’t get me started on Chippy prices -£5 for chips here!

Pinepeak2434 · 12/07/2025 09:41

I've never been a huge fan of McDonald’s, but even I’ve noticed the prices have gone up while the quality has gone down - and it's not just them, it’s happening everywhere. These days, I rarely bother with takeaways or eating out, even at decent restaurants. I’m just tired of paying more and constantly feeling short changed.

Sleepybear1234 · 12/07/2025 09:41

Our local maccies is awful now due to the sheer volume of uber eats and deliveroo orders any one who actually orders in the restaurant part or drive through has to wait ages and the food is always badly cooked soggy chips etc x

vegetarianlouise · 12/07/2025 09:43

If I'm going to indulge myself in rubbish junk food I'd rather go to my local kebab and get a big meal with lots of protein for half the Mac Donalds price. Not only it taste much better but I'm also helping my local economy. Mac Donald doesn't feel like a burger joint any more, but more like some very sterile and unfriendly office.

Shellyash · 12/07/2025 09:43

And I hate it when they say "sorry about your weight" ffs, if i was bothered i wouldn't be at McDonald's would i. Just don't mention it again please. .

anterenea · 12/07/2025 09:45

Voted YABU because in my mind, no sane adult should ever eat at Mcdonald's-dire food! Value yourself and what you put in your body

Weather spoons is cheaper. You get a proper plate and table service.

Yes, but your elbows stick to the table and their chairman is a twat.
Having said that, yes, obviously, traditional pub food and greasy spoon type places offer much better value for money in terms of quantity of food for the price.

cheesycheesy · 12/07/2025 09:58

It’s not that expensive compared to other food when out. I’ve always found the food is ok. Delivery is ridiculously expensive so I never bother.

Stardust127 · 12/07/2025 10:07

It’s crazy, I ordered McDonald’s for my family of 4 the other night (2 adults, one preteen who eats like an adult and a baby who eats a happy meal)

3 main meals, one side, one McFlurry, a happy meal. £42 incl delivery. Couldn’t believe it.

for comparison we got a Chinese takeout last night from one of the best local takeouts and it was £36 for us all (with a 40% discount on just eat ) but regardless of the discount, that’s how much we paid. And got so much more food.

Theonewhogotthecake · 12/07/2025 10:11

its disgusting. Burger King is so much better.

The decor is very cold and minimalist too, I remember a train with Ronald McDonald and the Hamburgler in my local in the 1980’s. A new opened up near me, all concrete, no colour, looks like something from behind the iron curtain.

Awww Memory Unlocked
My older two DC had a fair few McDonalds parties (either theirs or invited to friends) in the 90s

Beyondburnout · 12/07/2025 10:18

I heard they lie about the milkshake machine not working.

sashh · 12/07/2025 10:21

I sometimes get a breakfast delivered. I have to remember not to order from the nearest maccys because it is obviously reheated.

You can track the delivery, as the driver goes in the wrong direction and delivers to two other places before turning round and delivering my a cold breakfast.

The one closer to the city centre is much better.

Mummmyof1 · 12/07/2025 10:24

I always customise the fillet o fish to have extra tartar sauce. That way, they have to cook it fresh!

LightDrizzle · 12/07/2025 10:25

I’m in Portugal and McDonalds is more expensive than nice meals in lots of local restaurants. I do still indulge from time to time and I always wonder if they are audited on time from placement of order to it being ready as if you eat in, your order number comes up on the screen as ready ages before there is any sign of it. It’s just routine there and there there are loads of customers hovering around the counter while there’s 6 made orders on the digital screen but crickets around the counter.

LakieLady · 12/07/2025 10:27

I haven't had a Macdonalds since before Covid, probably a couple of years before, at that.

I used to get an almost annual craving for a quarterpuunder with cheese, and it would keep coming back until I gave in and got one. Then I'd eat it, not enjoy it, find it made me feel slightly sick and not have another for a year or so.

Now I'm mostly working from home rather than out in the community, I'd have to do a 12 mile round trip to go to a Macdonalds, so I don't bother, especially as there's a really nice place that does proper chargrilled burgers that's nearer.

I think they've always been rather unpleasant, so if they've got worse, they must be really horrid now!

Tagyoureit · 12/07/2025 10:32

Yes I was definitely shocked at how expensive it is at McDonald's these days when we popped in about a month ago.
It used to be a quick, cheap, cheerful treat but now its a very rare treat.

Deliveries are awful though, I refuse to get them delivered anymore as they always turned up cold, the drink had been spilt etc so we haven't had a delivery from them since covid times.

NamechangeRugby · 12/07/2025 10:33

The outlets in our area are about to switch over to fully automated. According to DH (so secondhand info & I'm not sure how accurate) it will only take one person to man the whole drive through.

Unfortunately the way things are going. Ideal if people vote with their feet and support local instead..if local survives that long.

Personally I just can't see anything enjoyable about this type of food, but my husband & kids view it as the odd treat when we travel (and it means I don't have to make sandwiches, so have capitulated over the years. I've graceously let them get on with it and leant to keep my moaning & general kill the buzz comments to myself 😎😂).
