So despite being flattened by the heatwave these last few days, I’ve still being enjoying my music and just got me wondering what everyone’s summer favourites are?!

I’ll start, so as a child of the 80s, mine is ‘Cruel Summer’ by Bananarama. So relatable growing up because my parents never took us on holiday ever so the school summer hols always felt torturously long and cruel because all my friends and cousins did get to go away and I was quite sad about that as a kid and this song as well as being so catchy was just perfect for me to hold a pity party to! 😅 And still resonates as an adult when you’re stuck in the office throughout most of the summer!

Daisy Jones and the Six's 'The River' hits the spot too. Not strictly summer but it's upbeat and full of references to rivers, seas and being on the road, so that fits the bill for me!

Also Ramones' 'Rockaway Beach' Van Halen 'Summer Nights' and the Stranglers' 'Peaches'.

Was about to ask the same thing. It would be an amazing list!

I've made a 50-strong playlist but don't use Spotify - DH is collating the songs on Amazon as I don't have a membership (prefer my own library). It's also got a couple of outliers that I'm not sure others would necessarily appreciate. Happy to share it though!

The absolute worst summer song is Summer by Bobby Goldsboro though. It’s about a 17 year old boy who loses his virginity to a 31 year old woman. If you must google the lyrics, have a sick bucket handy.

I remember the summer of 1989, I was mainly listening to The Beach Boys greatest hits and George Michael's Faith album, so anything from those albums make me instantly feel summery. Another one I love is Fleetwood Mac's Albatross, it just puts me in mind of hot summer days and the sun setting and that kind of mellow vibe you get when the air feels kind of heavy and you're just really relaxed.
Back to Life by Soul II Soul always makes me think of summer too- it was on the radio all summer long back in the late 1980s.
I think I'd just like to go back to the 1980s to be honest - summers then felt so much nicer than they do now - that could be my peri-menopausal self getting annoyed with this heat though and looking to the past with rose tinted sunglasses!

As I'm in my 60s this might seem like an unusual choice but my most favourite summer song is Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith).

@BoredZelda you missed out Back to Life by Soul II Soul. I saw them live back in the day, absolutely fabulous on stage & a belter summer tune.

Not from my era but Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles is my favourite summer record.

And I agree with others- the Beach Boys just make you think of sunny days.
