So despite being flattened by the heatwave these last few days, I’ve still being enjoying my music and just got me wondering what everyone’s summer favourites are?!

I’ll start, so as a child of the 80s, mine is ‘Cruel Summer’ by Bananarama. So relatable growing up because my parents never took us on holiday ever so the school summer hols always felt torturously long and cruel because all my friends and cousins did get to go away and I was quite sad about that as a kid and this song as well as being so catchy was just perfect for me to hold a pity party to! 😅 And still resonates as an adult when you’re stuck in the office throughout most of the summer!

If I had to name a ‘winner’ btw, based on frequency of recommendation probably would be Boys of Summer by Don Henley. This one had dropped entirely off my radar! Just listened to it tris morning and it’s sooo good - sultry summery - albeit a little sad since its rather a reflective song on what’s gone by.

Anyway, hope those in the affected areas, survive the summer heat okay. It’s already proper suffocating here in my little bedroom in the West Midlands as I get ready for the day. Stay hydrated, shaded and sun screened up everybody! 😎

Love it! It was played at the radio of my first year at university disco in 1977 - I remember us all spilling outside and pogoing to it.

Yes! I have a very ancient memory of this - a party in the garden of a friend of dh (we were still students) sitting on the grass in the sun - on a Sunday afternoon - with the sound of this playing coming through an open window.

Dh’s friend came and sat beside me. ‘Hello’, he said. ‘Are you stoned?’
‘No,’ said I.
‘Oh,’ he said, and added very happily, ‘I am!’ 😂

Three of my top picks already mentioned: QOTSA's 'Feel good hit of the summer', Alice Cooper's 'School's Out' and Martha and the Muffins' 'Echo Beach'.

Any one of the songs on the Pixies' Wave of Mutilation album always remind me of summer. We listened to this non-stop when I used to surf in Cornwall - always makes me think of camper vans, surfboards and beers in the sunset. Happy days!

I'd add Kid Rock's 'Sweet Home Alabama all Summer Long', and one for late summer, The Doors' 'Summer's Almost Gone'.

Wake up Boo by the Bo Radleys reminds me of the summer of 1995 in the middle of my nurse training really hot summer with loads of festivals and parties.
