I had a message this morning asking if my daughter would like a sleepover at a friends house tomorrow.
I was at work and didn’t get to answer it until this evening.
I have accepted the invitation but been told they have made other plans now as I didn’t reply.
AIBU to think this is unfair?

i loathe this expectation that we are switched on and plugged in and immediately available.

This. I notice it on TV and movies. Phone rings and they interupt to answer their phone, sometimes just to say "I'll call you back". Wtf. Just don't answer.

Really not acceptable. No one owes you a response.

I just meant in terms of expecting to be kept in the loop - and to still be regularly invited to things.

Of course, nobody owes you a response; but equally, if somebody hasn't replied after three or four days, you also don't owe them the kindness of keeping any invitation open.

Horses for courses; as long as everybody knows where they stand and are happy with it.

Hilarious. Just came back in to see what OP said and would you believe, she has not even bothered to answer any of the replies posted! Oh the irony.
