How much barking is too much?

One neighbour has a dog that barks in the garden, 4 times a day, about 2 mins each time, between 9am and 9pm.

Bark is very loud.

Houses are detached but close together

Other neighbour has a bit of a go and says this is causing significant mental distress.

Who is being unreasonable?

Will tell you later which neighbour I am, so these are at random:

YANBU - this is an unacceptable level of noise and it was fair to complain

YABU - this is an acceptable level of neighbourhood noise

I haven’t voted nor fast forwarded to end of thread because…..
I am that distressed neighbour. Our ndn has two rescues, totally untrained. Bark from 5am to 11pm, 7 days a week.
I am beyond anxious, each time they bark. I am sleep deprived. Its even worse now as I’d like my windows open but even in winter it’s the same.
nothing I can do, as it’s not ‘regular and long enough’ (according to Council)
so I hope it’s not you - the dog owner - and if you are the neighbour you have all my sympathies.
To dog owners, train your dogs. Or go live on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

Yes that’s completely different - you are saying they are barking 18 hours a day. Which is horrific. 8 minutes day broken up is a bit more tolerable.

My dog isn’t allowed in the garden unsupervised. The minute he barks (and dogs do bark at random things). I call him inside.

We can’t expect silent dogs. But owners should be supervising and intervening. Personally I wouldn’t be bothered by 8 minutes of barking.
