To stop DD playing tennis

GhraceIllria · 11/07/2025 10:37

My DD is 15, she has been at a tennis school in the south of France for 3 years, and is really passionate, she wants to go pro or at least play through the US college system.

Anyway she is doing pretty well and enjoying it but she has picked up a habit of screaming either into her towel in the change overs, or after winning a point out loud. Her coach has told her she needs to compose herself better, but she can’t seem to help it. DH thinks it’s funny, she’s just passionate, we wouldn’t care if she was a boy.

I’m tempted to tell DD unless she can compose herself better and stop making herself look silly, she will have to give up or take a break.

You cannot be serious?

KimberleyClark · 11/07/2025 10:39

This must be a wind up.

pointythings · 11/07/2025 10:39

Don't be silly, she'll outgrow it. Are you worried about what people will think?

This must be a wind up.

You'd hope so.

but in the off chance it's not, no. I wouldn't tell her that, but j woukd threaten to withdraw any 'fun' ££££. I can't abide the screaming.

😂 👏

Itiswhysofew · 11/07/2025 10:41

If her coach has told her, isn't that enough?

Brilliant! 🤩

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 11/07/2025 10:50

I wouldn't stop her playing but I do agree that it is ridiculous. She has watched what the 'big boys and girls' are doing on the tv and is trying to copy them.

luckylavender · 11/07/2025 10:54

She’s 15. Don’t be silly.

TheNightingalesStarling · 11/07/2025 10:55

Is it behaviour she could be sanctioned for on court?

lifeturnsonadime · 11/07/2025 10:59

Ha I've come across a grunting bowler in women's cricket. That's unusual.

Don't they do sports psychology at the fancy tennis school in France OP. Surely they will help her with her emotional outbursts?

Have you been watching Sabalenka OP? Is this a really weird way of saying "isn't her screaming annoying?"

ShamrockShenanigans · 11/07/2025 11:11

You sound about 15 love.

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 11/07/2025 11:13

Lots of tennis stars make a " racquet " .

NautilusLionfish · 11/07/2025 11:15

Has she been watching Sabalenka?

Let her be. Both you and coach. She'll gund herself soon enough

Cherrytree86 · 11/07/2025 11:17

Quite right OP, she should be more lady like. Boys on the other hand can do whatever they like.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 11/07/2025 11:41

Are you and her dad quite emotional? This behaviour must have seeded somewhere.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 11/07/2025 12:13

Sabalenka was so loud and annoying yesterday I turned it over and was pleased the other woman won. Perhaps phrase it to your daughter that she is expending a lot of energy with all the screaming and maybe she could channel the adrenaline in a better way?
