I cant do it. Have I damaged the wall plugs?

First of all, I tried hanging it on the stud wall, using the studs.

I got the wall plugs in but then the screws wouldn't fit tight, they were loose so the tv wouldn't hang

Now I am trying to hang it on a wall shared with my neighbour (they've suddenly taken up drumming so they will have to accept the noise) but the drill won't go in far enough for the third hole ive drilled, and the first two holes are too big

What am I doing 😭😭😭😭

Is it a brick wall between you and the neighbour? If so you’ll need a masonry drill bit which will make all the difference

Sounds like drill too big rawl plugs too loose in the holes. In the good old days you'd put one or two used matchsticks in to fill some of the hole/rawl plug so the screws would have something to purchase on. You might want to look up the correct drill/rawl plug/screw sizes to go together. How heavy is the tv, if it's heavy you will need good solid fixings.

I certainly wouldn't be winging it, if you are struggling please get a professional in.

If you are mounting on a plasterboard wall and using the studs you don't need the plugs. Use a very thin drill bit and then the screww goes into the wooden stud. This is the securest way to mount it. Using plugs in a plasterboard wall is not very strong.

Ideally you need to screw into the wooden framing of the stud wall. If it’s heavy a special fixing maybe needed to stop the plaster board on the wood studding being crushed.
There are special fixings you can get for most wall types it’s knowing what fixing you need

Find the wooden studs and screw directly into that without using the plugs. You can usually tell where the studs are by knocking on the wall or by drilling small holes to see if you go into wood or through the plasterboard.

Or get someone in, if you don't fancy your tv ripping off the wall.

Omg that makes so much sense 😭

How much will it cost to replace your tv and repair the wall when it comes down?

Test the bracket by pulling on it as hard as you can, and if it moves even a tiny bit do not use it.

And get a mate to help you lift the actual tv. How are you going to lift it and actually attach it to the mount without 3 hands?

youreactinglikeafunmum · 10/07/2025 16:29

DID IT, THANK GOD 😊😊😊

Please excuse the filthy tv with finger marks, it was hardly used
