Sick of feeling like this before my period…anyone else?!

My breasts hurt. My anxiety is sky high. I feel stressed. Can’t sleep well. I hate it.

My cycles are around 28 days and bleed for around 4-5 days. I’m 38.

I’m just sick of it. Nearly half the month I’m feeling like shit. Any tips on what may help?

Sertraline, taking cyclical helped me

Magnesium really helped with my moods throughout my cycle.

I'd love some tips too. The impact of my period on my mood and sleep is getting worse as I get older.

Planesmistakenforstars · 10/07/2025 12:09

No tips, just sympathy, and adding extreme tiredness, itching, headaches and so much water retension that I need separate clothes. Oh, and rage. Magnesium makes me feel nauseous. But we have the menopause to look forward to! Whoop de fucking do.

Evening primrose oil worked great for me x

I’m 32 and the last few months I’ve started to get horrendously painful breasts for the 7-10 days before my period.

I hate feeling like crap for half the month

Look up the Royal College of Gynaecologists guidelines on PMDD. There is a defined treatment pathway after keeping a diary for a few months showing symptoms.

Evening primrose oil cold pressed really works for me I have to take it every day and it takes one whole cycle of taking it and then the next cycle le is better. When I was younger 1000 mg per day worked but now I take 3500 . No breast pain and much less pmt and anxiety if I take it every day. I really notice if I haven't. Its been the only supplement I have stuck with over years

PeriJane · 10/07/2025 12:41

No alcohol. I have noticed my symptoms are far less when I’m not drinking.

anotherwordforit · 10/07/2025 12:44

Yes I’m 32 and for at least a week leading up to periods it’s sore boobs, angry/anxious/tearful, stress, insatiable appetite for carbs and sugar and fatigued 😖

Ha10 · 10/07/2025 13:07

It’s nice to know I’m not alone but I also have such empathy to everyone who has posted. It’s awful isn’t it?

I also get the rage feeling. I just feel totally rubbish, foggy and miserable. I have got to the point where I actively dread the days leading up to the bleed.

Acupuncture can balance hormones.

Big pharmacy doesnt like it as it doesn't involve medication they can profit from. Hence it’s a private treatment not nhs. About £50-£60 a session.
changed my life. Can do things western medicine cant.
