To have been happier before I learned what fly poo looks like?

Maybe I’m a slovenly house-keeper, but I didn’t know what fly poo looked like until recently.

I’d never thought much about it, to be fair. Then we moved house and have a lighter coloured kitchen and countertops and suddenly I was seeing these little clusters of dots around and wondering what they are.

Now, I don’t think my house is extra fly-filled or anything, but it’s summer and the little bastards wander in looking for sweets and somewhere to shit. They get escorted off the premises when I see them, but not without leaving me a little gift. They’re like the equivalent of MN tradesmen daring to use the toilet.

It’s not a daily occurrence. Spot some maybe once a week or so, but I’m on the lookout constantly. Speck of dirt on the floor- is it fly poo? Dropped chia seeds, or fly poo? And it’s so small! I’m constantly scanning my countertops and floors for signs of the blasted stuff. I think I’m going slightly cross-eyed.

So my poll- AIBU to think that most people don’t know what fly shit looks like?

Unfortunately, there is no poll :(

YANBU. In other fly related discoveries I spotted two of the buggers getting jiggy on my bathroom door frame yesterday. One quick flick with a towel and they were unalive, but still, ahem, ‘attached’ to each other Confused What I wouldn’t have given for a handy microscope…

While you're looking keep an eye out for spider poo, there's often quite a collection of it under the web, or that might just be our grotty house

WaitedBlankey · 09/07/2025 20:48

Wee feckers. Yes, light paint makes it far more obvious.

Yes, spider poo is my problem. We have a garden room, and as soon as I've hoovered up one lot of spiders, another load have taken their place. I suppose I should be grateful that they are eating all the flies, but the more flies they eat, the more poo turns up on my window sills ☹️

unalive?

why are we using childish TikTok language. The only reason the word ‘unalive’ is used is to avoid having videos flagged or removed on TikTok as they don’t tolerate wording like suicide ect. But this is not TikTok, and you can indeed just say both flies are dead.

I remember a thread on here when a poster talked about cleaning up fly poo and she was jeered and mocked, posters openly taking the piss. They didn't believe such a thjng existed. Meanwhile every day I clean up fly or spider mess from my conservatory, every bloody day 😡

Ah (fly) shite. First time using the MN app (as the website is virtually unusable for over a week now!) and didn’t realise that a poll wouldn’t be included.

Christ @Sulking by name and nature. I was being lightheaded but lesson learned. They were dead. Deceased. Passed over. A pair of corpses, and murdered at that. At least they went having a good time.
