Neighbour has put political banner on his fence

IonaJ · 08/07/2025 20:52

Our neighbour’s house has a fence which faces a fairly busy road. He has taken it upon himself to tie a political banner (think ‘vote X’) to that fence.

Before anyone says it, yes I know it’s his property. But said party are divisive and I worry there may be some unwarranted attention as a result.

Do you think we would be unreasonable to politely suggest it is taken down, or to compromise, only put there during election periods?

Nobody has yet to explain to me why they’re so afraid they might get in. Because I suspect they don’t know

I’ll explain exactly why. Their economic policies are nonsensical, they somehow seem to think they can simultaneously cut tax and improve public services. Their health policies would return us to the 1930s. I don’t think they even have any education policies.

Then you have to look at the calibre of the people they get elected, they’ve put teenagers in charge of vital services in councils they run. I suggest anyone considering voting for them in 2029 takes a long hard look at their local government track record.

It's obviously a reform poster. Only a libral would moan and expect someone with an opposing view to shut up 😁🤣

Who are these liberals of what you speak?
I didn't say that there aren't real people out there like that with those views. Or that the poster wasn't real. But the more people say "this is why people vote for X" in response to people online they don't know saying dumb shit, the stupider we all get and the stupider online discussions get. X is so full of bots it's unusable now. And that's just as true as a voter saying "well Freaky Friday posted a laugh cry emoji so I'm definitely not voting reform now". That would be silly. It applies in all directions.

Xenia · 09/07/2025 12:31

It is usually at electrion time that some people put up a poster in their window or even a placard on a stick in the garden. I think it is better not to do that whatever party you support. In fact my mother never even told us how she voted her whole life as she said it was private.

In some areas you are not allowed to put some things up (I live in a conservation area). I did go out last year with cleaning materials to remove some offensive stickers on the private estate put up by Jewish homes by Hamas supporters (and I also removed the one pro Israel one too) although obviously I would not go into anyone garden of course - this was on lamp posts.

Namitynamename · 09/07/2025 12:32

@freakyfriday23 are you American perchance? We would say "left wing" or "Labour voter" , usually. The Liberal Democrats in the UK are ,now a left wing party but unlike in America not usually referred to as "liberals" and they are the 3rd party anyway. To me liberal either means old school Whig or a political position thats the opposite of authoritarian rather than economically left wing. It's like someone here calling them self a "Republican".it means different things.

I’d put a big sign up of what mindless policies & beliefs Reform have :)

OP, we must educate the uneducated afterall.

Edited

Or, to paraphrase, we must educate those who have the audacity to disagree with me!
Before there's a round of high-horse leaping, that isn't support for Reform, simply an application of basic Voltaire.

Personally I dislike seeing Palestinian flags flying, especially by people who couldn't find Palestine/Gaza on a map.

Your reply is a bit garbled. But I think you are insulting me?

Let's see what happens next year and then in 2029, eh?

Odds are still 7/5 for reform vs 8/5 for labour, I’ll keep you posted.

Not really 'wild' though is it. I certainly couldn't be friends with someone who thinks Tommy Robinson is some kind of god and that brown people don't belong in this country.

If you think that's a difference you could put aside, then that's up to you.

Personally that's where I would draw the line and could not be friends with a Reform voter, because FUNDAMENTALLY, we would have zero interest common.

Wait, did you just claim that anybody who doesn't vote the way you think is appropriate thinks "Tommy Robinson is some kind of god and that brown people don't belong in this country". Surely you are not that bigoted and ill educated. Surely this is a joke response.

JohnofWessex · 10/07/2025 07:09

Bottom line is that its a planning issue

Off to The Council I suggest

Champagneandpringles24 · 10/07/2025 07:16

Apologies - I put this in the wrong thread

Abitofalark · 11/07/2025 19:13

'Divisive'? All political parties are divisive. That's kind of the system. I do think if public servants such as the police can put political banners on official cars and livery and town halls who are there to serve the public can fly special political flags and paint roads in political colours, then why shouldn't the people do the same on their own fence or other property? I don't particularly like such things and wouldn't do it myself but fair's fair.

CheekyFish · 11/07/2025 19:27

PandoraSocks · 09/07/2025 21:42

🤣

Reform being the next Government odds have increased to 11/8 now. I’m not taking gambling advice from you again @PandoraSocks !! 🙂

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2025 19:33

It’s four years until we go to the polls. Who gives a stuff what the odds are at this point? It’s like betting on the 2029 Wimbledon final.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 11/07/2025 20:02

IonaJ · 08/07/2025 22:23

It’s hardly a controversial statement!

It was observed on the local Facebook page at the time of the last election that Reform were canvassing the new build social housing estate.

Edited

It's an inaccurate statement. Educate yourself OP.

I can’t find any odds on that, probably not enough data available to make meaningful probability predictions.

Yes, makes sense. It’s why I love betting odds for politics, it’s it the only truely impartial view you get. Cold hard data.

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2025 21:28

Data which will be completely irrelevant in four years time.

Sounds to me like you should put a bet on Labour whilst they have poor odds of winning.

BIossomtoes · 11/07/2025 21:45

Why would I do that? Admittedly I’d have done stunningly well if I’d put money on them in 2020.
