Dd has just booked a driving theory test. She paid £50 through Get a pass with apparently unlimited tries. If she'd have done it through a government.uk site it would have been £23. Has she been scammed?

Sounds dubious

Wereeallmadhereyouknow · 08/07/2025 06:48

It does doesn't it? Time will tell!

I've had a look at their website and it does seem too good to be true and it's not clear to me whether you have to pay for any additional tests

Everyone is allowed to take the theory test as many times as they need to so it's a bit disingenuous to say they are selling that

However making you pass three mock tests is probably a very effective way to pass the real thing first time

I'm interested to hear from anyone who has had to take a second test

Number456 · 08/07/2025 07:55

If you have to pass three mock tests first then you are very likely to pass.

If everyone pays for two tests and most people pass the first time then that’s the cost of the very few that need to take it more than twice covered. So not a scam as such.

I think the pass rate is only about 40% but a lot of people don’t revise at all.

Wereeallmadhereyouknow · 08/07/2025 08:40

I didn't realise you could retake the theory test as many times as you like. Thought you had to pass or pay again! I'm going to see if it can be cancelled.

You do have to pay again each time you take your theory if you fail.

Number456 · 08/07/2025 08:43

You do have to pay again.

You do have to pay again if you don't pass. The price is per sitting but you can sit it as many times as you want (&can pay for)

despairofbadscience · 08/07/2025 08:45

You do need to pay again. Your register just needs to take loads of mock tests online and she will be fine.

If you only got one go to pass the theory test it would certainly solve the driving test backlog 😂

One of my child's friends took about 7 goes

You can take the test as many times as you like. But you have to pay each time.

Is this like a practice app thing/website with unlimited training "tests"?

tammienorrie · 08/07/2025 09:06

The website when you google it says "get a pass, in-person courses, study for your test".

So yeah, it's a training course teaching her what she needs to know to pass the test. It is not the test itself. £50 is also very steep. The official DVSA app is a fiver.

Lins77 · 08/07/2025 09:16

It does seem steep. The test is not that hard to pass if you study for it. (When DD did hers I took some practice ones on DVSA website, just to see how I would do, and I passed despite having revised no driving theory in 30 years.)

DD scraped through hers having done barely any study (it was a busy time).

Number456 · 08/07/2025 09:18

So there are no actual tests included at all?

Lins77 · 08/07/2025 09:21

It looks like more of a training course? With the promise "pass first time or your money back". But the test itself doesn't seem to be included.

FfaCoff · 08/07/2025 09:24

Look at their terms and conditions - especially the services bit. You have to pass three practice tests to get the free theory test resits but they reserve the right to only let you sit it once and then they charge you a fee to resit. You will not get the free resit of the theory test itself if you fail hazard perception.

I'd be amazed if you actually get what they claim to offer...

Are you looking at the same site? Because on the front page when I look it says "We'll book an official DVSA theory test on your behalf". You then do three of their tests, and then you sit the official test that they booked.

Maybe a different one then, I googled Get a Pass and this came up

getapass.uk/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19922199584&gbraid=0AAAAApfV24CHXvPyfNMvKfUI4K1qjeZu8&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz8aS1OasjgMV4JhQBh3JjTSmEAAYASAAEgLSGPD_BwE

Lins77 · 08/07/2025 09:31

Ah - I had to click through to "online courses".

Wereeallmadhereyouknow · 08/07/2025 13:50

So they've offered her a date for the official test but 2 weeks later than requested so she can't go as on holiday. If she cancels they refund the £23 the actual test cost but keep the rest.....

OP posts:
despairofbadscience · 08/07/2025 20:25

Sounds rubbish. Honestly tell her to do loads of mock tests on the dvla website then book when she’s ready

Khalan737 · 01/02/2026 18:51

hi i just made the same mistake did getapass turn out to be legitimate
