First world holiday problem

Even thinking about this I know I ABU. We‘re so lucky to be together on holiday.

We normally go on our summer holiday somewhere hot. Think beaches, sand, sun, swimming, sightseeing, picnics and late night dinners.

DH insisted that we do something different this year. So we‘ve gone to Germany. It’s been pouring with rain all day, and will tomorrow as well. It’s 18 degrees. We‘re in a really nice hotel, but we are the youngest adults by a mile (and we‘re early 40s) and there are no other children apart from ours. So I feel a bit on edge that our kids are being too rowdy.

We do have a plan of action for tomorrow (museum, shopping, eating out). But I‘d much rather be on the beach. Trying to hide my disappointment from DH, because this was his idea and we want to have a good time.

I‘m thinking Sardinia next year. What do you reckon?

I’m with you OP. I’m disappointed if I get rain or even grey skies on my holidays. I’m a sun lover, blue skies make my heart soar.

The only thing is - it’s 35 degrees in Sardinia right now. Would you be ok with that? It’s near impossible to find somewhere guaranteed sunny but also guaranteed no heatwaves.

Sardinia looks glorious though.

Sounds like a nightmare! I’ve never understood wanting to go on a holiday like this!

I‘m glad you get it. I hate a grey sky on holiday!

35° is borderline ok!! As long as there is a pool or sea to cool down in.

How long are you there?

I just looked to the forecast and the temperature is going to rise. It will be 21c by Wednesday and 31c by Monday.

I can understand the disappointment, though, if you wanted reliable weather and some beach. It's very hard when you get poor weather. Are there any lake based activities? You can do when the weather improves?

Zuert · 07/07/2025 20:48

We‘re leaving on Friday, just as the weather improves. Our hotel has a private beach and we could rent stand up paddle boards etc.

It is very nice here, and I‘d love to come here another time. Totally nothing against the area itself, it’s beautiful. I just wanted something else from my summer holiday. I genuinely feel shitty for complaining, because I know how lucky we are.

Oh bad luck! Week before or after and you’d have been laughing. Sorry 😞 hope the rain clears up very soon.

There are some beautiful castles in Germany if that’s your thing! The Disney castle was inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle which is stunning, that’s south Germany, not sure how far it is from you.

We love Germany but mainly go for long weekends and have a summer holiday in Greece. My husband keeps suggesting that one year we do the longer holiday in Germany but I'm reluctant for the fear of exactly what you're describing! I also love the sun and the beach.

I hope the weather perks up for you!

Haha have just booked Lake Constance for August!
