Alternative to first dance?

My Finance and I are considering not having a first dance as neither of us can dance and also couldn’t think of anything worse than awkwardly trying to dance in front of 100 people.

However I am a bit worried that after the first dances is when people start getting on the dance floor, so concerned that it will take the party a while to warm up if we don’t have one.

Did anyone have an alternative to a first dance?

Line dance or barn dance for everyone

Anthem song ( ie radio gaga) so nobody can resist joining in

Would your parents be up for doing the first dance instead?

How about,
A short magic act, sawing a lady in half - that sort of thing.
Balloon Animals (always popular).
Sand Dance. (my favorite)

First dances rarely involve much dancing. Choose a novelty song and ask the DJ to cut it down to a minute or so.

Just walk on to the dance floor to a round of applause and invite everyone up for the first dance?

There is an island tradition called a Grand March which is great fun but you need someone who know what’s they’re doing to coordinate it. And that would likely only be an islander!

Ooo, I saw a YouTube video of two Star Wars fans who had a (really slow and slightly embarrassing) lightsaber duel instead of a first dance.

Do you like Star Wars?
