Ordered mounjaro, right or wrong?

rightorwrong25 · 06/07/2025 03:09

Evening/morning, Apologies im posting here for traffic

Ive just ordered mounjaro, currently waiting for my photos to be "accepted"

Always said I wouldn't, that I'd just be able to lock in and be fine.. 'i've done it before' but its been a couple of years and im just miserable.

Tried the first website that came up and I wasn't considered at all, so the next site I added an extra 7lbs. Which is most probably true, even at kindest! Not weighed myself since I outgrew a size 12 which I swore to myself I never would again.

I've just heard so many success stories from using it, I do feel its gonna be a quick fix!? Ive flicked through threads and articles and had friends experiences but id like to hopefully chat with someone now about it.

Im currently-
50% just get it done its stupid to wait til you get even fatter
50% dont take it, not worth it, just try harder to cut back/move more,
(even though you've already tried that and its just not working currently, mainly because I feel too fat and lumpy to move)

Just need some unbiased level heads please MNers!

I have a few comments as someone who started taking it at BMI 30 (so on the bottom of prescription guidelines).

it’s a very useful tool to aid weight loss. It’s been life changing for me. I only need to loose 2.5stone but it wasn’t shifting through usual diet and exercise. A lot of others say the same.

There are side effects but the vast majority don’t have them or they are minor. Pancreatitis is serious and awful but it’s also caused by rapid weight loss from any kind of diet, not just from using mounjaro.

It’s worrying about you not eating to weigh yourself. This is where you are wrong. You need to weigh yourself properly. I’m curious to know why you don’t want to? Have you suffered from an eating disorder in the past?

prescribers now are tightening up on the rules. Some make you photograph the scales or step on them on a video call. If you aren’t prepared for this, maybe it’s not for you.

but if you want to do it right, and are BMI 30, then go for it.

FlowersFawb · 06/07/2025 08:36

@Doggymummar ....yes, I was 17 stone.

I did exactly what you have done and five weeks later I’m down 14lb. It’s not magic - I’ve calorie controlled and exercised hard too but the lack of hunger has made it very easy. I know want to lose another 5/7lb and then I’ll come off it and maintain. Like you, I was around a stone and a half overweight which put me at the high end of overweight for BMI and was frustrated by losing and gaining the same 2/3lb each week. The mounjaro has just given me the help to get it off and I feel so much better. Of course there are risks but for me it’s done what I wanted it to do.

So you lied about your weight /height to gain the medication ?

which supplier are you with ? Sounds like they didn’t do the right checks

@rightorwrong25 you need to weigh yourself. Sounds like you are not obese and bmi isn’t over 30 so you are likely to be refused

they are being much stricter /tighter with checks now and so they should be. It’s medicine

SoppySalad · 06/07/2025 08:41

I’ve been on the injection since the end of March and I’ve lost 3 stone and 6 pounds.
I now weigh 10 1/2 stone at 5’ 5”. I’d like to lose another 15 pounds, but I currently look and feel amazing.

However, I wouldn’t do this without being completely honest about my weight with the prescribers. I always report back accurately on side effects.

Luckily I’ve only had a bit of constipation, but I’ve eaten spectacularly healthy from day 1. I’ve also cut out all soda - including diet, sugar and alcohol to avoid side effects as much as possible.

Another thing to consider is that Mounjaro does not make me feel full, at all. In fact, my very first dose made me ravenous. It took all of my willpower not to raid the cupboards. I get like this for a couple of days after each injection. It does cut out my sweet treat cravings though, which is why it has worked for me. I’ll eat a carrot as happily as I would have a chocolate bar.

What I’m trying to say is that it’s not an easy fix as some might think. I still needed willpower, commitment to myself and exercise. Everyone is different and the weight won’t necessarily just fall off.

I also increased through the doses very slowly. 2.5mg for 2 months, not 1. Then 5mg until now. I also recognise that Mounjaro is long term. I might need to stay on the injection at a maintenance dose for a year or more. Otherwise lost weight will simply be regained again.

Lots to think about op. It’s not easy and it’s very expensive. So if you’re going to do this journey, then do it properly. Start with honesty and allow it to be a safe journey. Best of luck.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. Ive changed my mind, I think i just had a major wobble last night. It wont let me cancel my order so hopefully I just get rejected.

If you are serious about wanting to lose weight (and at size 18 I’d guess you are obese) then weight loss injections are a sensible healthy decision because they work. Just step on the scales!

KentishMama · 06/07/2025 08:54

It's not unreasonable to take Mounjaro if you meet the criteria. But you don't seem to be taking this seriously, and you "added and extra 7lbs" to meet the threshold because you don't even know your weight. This is totally irresponsible behaviour, and you should call your prescriber now to cancel.

Swapozorro · 06/07/2025 08:59

By your own admission you feel too fat to move. So basically you just can’t be bothered. Come on OP you can totally do this. I’ve been where you are, almost 13 stone and used to be 10. I got the weight off the old fashioned way and you can too. I really don’t think you’re a candidate for this drug!

Where does it say she’s size 18? She said 13 stone and she’s tall. I’d guess she’s between size 14-16

Avengersassembly · 06/07/2025 09:05

Go and weigh yourself, face up to the reality of how much you weigh. If you are obese take mounjaro and measure your progress properly.

DarkForces · 06/07/2025 09:06

It sounds like you've been in denial for a long time. You need to weigh and consider your options based on where you are. Unfortunately, as I discovered, not knowing my weight didn't mean I wasn't obese. I was and am now close to a healthy bmi thanks to wlis

Ilovethewild · 06/07/2025 09:08

Glad to read yr update. Mj is a serious medication, it’s not over the counter, it’s prescribed based on your medical and health need.

its right that people check they are suitable for it, are truthful with suppliers/prescribers and only use reputable pharmacies/NHS to purchase.

socks1107 · 06/07/2025 09:10

I was where you are in January. I was obese with a bmi of 33.8. I almost paid and chickened out.
but I did get my head down and have lost 15kg now and my bmi is 27. Another term to go.

i gave myself a month to try and that motivated the rest. No judgement it’s so personal but you really need to weigh yourself and be honest with your provider not just guess

Doodlebug79 · 06/07/2025 07:54

I think it's ridiculous when people take MJ for just losing a couple of stone.
MJ can have sone serious side effects and it's not a medication to fuck with just because you're a bit overweight.
Adding 7 pounds just because tou can't be bothered to weigh yourself is really irresponsible.
You might get more positive responses/more validating responses on the weight loss injection page!

I think it's even more ridiculous when people think a couple of stone can't make someone obese, especially a woman. And you'd have to be pretty tall for a couple of stone to only make you 'a bit overweight'.

When you're going to wade in like this, it would be sensible to actually familiarise yourself with what overweight and obese actually mean.

ExtraOnions · 06/07/2025 09:17

Just weigh yourself … it is what it is … it’s a number, not a judgement.

I started on MJ in Nov, I’ve lost 5.5 stone, BMI has gone from 52 to 39. I still have a way to go, and won’t stay on the jabs forever, as I have side effects. My plan is to get from “obese” to “overweight” and then cut the meds down.

It’s not a quick fix.. you can’t jab, carry on what you are eating, and expect to lose weight. Still takes determination

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 06/07/2025 09:25

Just weigh yourself and if you’re over 30 bmi then you can have it without lying about anything. Your provider will possibly ask for a video of your weight. If you’re not then I don’t suggest you try and obtain it through deception. It’s for fat people and you should only take it as prescribed.
full disclosure - I have been taking it since May, was obese and have lost 1 stone and 12 lbs. Am about 7-9lbs away from my goal weight.

PutThe · 06/07/2025 09:26

Agree with posters who are saying whether you want WLIs or not, weigh yourself. Then you know the nature of the problem you're facing.

NoTouch · 06/07/2025 09:51

WLIs are a high risk medical treatment for obesity.

You do not sound informed enough or in the right mindset to take them safely.

Hopefully the prescribing guidelines are robust enough to check your eligibility thoroughly. But if you do get approved please educate yourself on them before starting.

They are not high risk!!! Why would the NHS prescribe them to anyone at all if they were?

Ffs this is the trouble with people posting on AIBU you just get randoms saying scare mongering shit.

It is not me that classes them as high risk it is the GPhC. Are you qualified to say otherwise?

Comedycook · 06/07/2025 10:35

I'm on weight loss injections myself so I don't judge that. But I'm totally bemused as to why you didn't just weigh yourself...you just guessed a weight? Is that right? If so you are being very unreasonable. Also sounds like you really haven't done much research on it.

Titasaducksarse · 06/07/2025 10:38

I'm not finding it a quick fix...I'd describe it as an aid.
I've lost 30lb since January so I'm certainly not a stone a month closer. I'm half way there BUT, I'm actively working on my diet, food choices and I go to the gym 4 to 6 times a week now.
I feel in so much better shape but I am putting the work in. I'm still only on 5mg but am thinking I'll increase next week.

LOLOL82 · 06/07/2025 10:41

I took MJ when I had 2-3st to lose and tbh it was great! I was at the lowest end of prescribing guidelines and it stopped me becoming obese. I now have a lower BMI and use a 5mg for maintenance.

people who have gallstones are at risk of pancreatitis anyway and gallstones are rather common and there’s a few common risk factors too.

I have no issue staying on it permanently for maintenance.

Supima · 06/07/2025 11:38

Obesity is high risk. Much more dangerous than WLIs
