People in glass houses...

On a train today there were a couple of late teen girls in front of me, and after the (female) guard had been round to check tickets, I heard one of them make a joke about the guards haircut resembling a bird's nest. When I took a sneaky look a minute or two later I realised the one who had made the joke had a trendy piece of headwear covering most of her hair.

AIBU to think you shouldn't mock someone else's haircut if you aren't showing your own? (Not that you should anyway).

YABU - It was just a joke between friends
YANBU - It's not nice and hypocrisy

I didn't vote as I think it is both.
But it was banter between friends. If they had said it in ear shot, or aimed it at the conductor, then that is different.

'Teenagers scare the living shit out of me'

On my weight loss journey and I actively avoid groups of teens. Horrible things.

greengreyblue · 05/07/2025 21:50

Wouldn’t have given it a moment’s thought. You were eavesdropping .

GreenWheat · 05/07/2025 21:54

Oh for goodness sake it was two friends having a chat with each other. And no, you don't have to be perfect yourself in order to comment (privately to a friend) about someone else. You've come on here to have a bitch about a girl you don't know, so 🤷‍♀️

They were right in front of me, it would be hard not to overhear.

@GreenWheat That's true, but I'm only stating my thoughts, not saying she's a terrible person overall.

Why are you still thinking about this? I’d have forgotten by the time I got off. Are you the conductor and hurt by their comment? That sounds more likely to stay with you than overhearing g a pair of teenagers talking.

EdwinaIronside · 05/07/2025 22:51

Was it like a bird’s nest? If so it could be fair comment.

SlightlyTooMuch · 05/07/2025 22:55

What, so you can only make a comment about someone else’s hair if your own is visible? Where does this ‘rule’ come from?

SlightlyTooMuch · 05/07/2025 22:57

Also, you are misunderstanding the truism about people in glass houses — the commenting teenager woukd have had to have bird’s nest hair herself for that to be an appropriate saying.

No I'm not the conductor. I guess I'm just in a phase where I'm over thinking things

Maybe she did?!

OK, but as you couldn’t see, she could just as easily have had sleek, beautifully kept hair.

TrainObserver · 05/07/2025 23:12

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree

I think so. What would happen if you didn’t think about / analyse this? Absolutely nothing.
Focus on some positives , do some meditation, plan something nice for yourself. 💐
