To ask about going part time

Name changed but I am a regular poster. If one wage theoretically covers all the essential outgoings and bills, but nothing more… and the other wage (mine) covers everything else - clothes, days out, holidays, savings… How much would you want to have available monthly for the ‘everything else’ to feel comfortable?

I understand it’s highly subjective and personal. I am temporarily going back part time after maternity leave and just musing over whether it’s doable to drop an additional day or not to be with my DC more as time is just going so fast and I don’t want to miss a thing.

Thanks :)

Another day dropped would be a difference of £350/400 ish I think

I can’t even begin to answer because it really is so completely subjective that it’s unreal. How many people are we talking about? What jobs does everybody have, does everybody have good sick pay/income protection insurance, do you already have a good amount of savings, do you rent or own your home, are you married? Are your holidays 3 nights camping in a tent or 2 weeks in a Cyprus All Inclusive?

Is that total or per week?

Assuming total, in which case your salary is worth about 1600 a month 4 days or 1200 month 3 days?

I mean it's doable, does that take childcare costs into account?

Can you increase your days again?

Depends how many people are dependent on it? How many DC?

Total. No childcare costs
