Weird quirk or controlling?

Dp has started timing how long my before bed ritual takes me. Ie, going to the loo, brushing teeth. He claims its to prove how much longer than i take than him and how he should use the bathroom first as i "slow him down". He claims Its just a bit fun, im not sure how to take it. Advice?

Definitely controlling.

What does it matter how long it takes you to get ready for bed?

If they only have one bathroom then it is annoying if someone is in there for a very long time.

Why doesn’t he just brush his teeth etc before you?

If he's quick and you take ages I can see why he wants to go first.

Well i wouldnt say i take ages. Based on him timing me last night i took 2 and a half minutes 🤨

What's the rest of the relationship like op

Literally why does it matter how long it takes/who goes first? I haven't bickered about something like that since childhood when we had limited hot water and no one wanted the last shower. Is your husband actually a seven year old boy? Because if not he's being weird and annoying.

I've been tempted to time my DH on the toilet because I swear he takes longer than I do, but I haven't ever done it.

NoisyGoldMember · 05/07/2025 17:49

Controlling. Suggest you time him when you’re having sex, see if he likes that.

Funnyduck60 · 05/07/2025 18:38

Well how long do you take? Honestly? If its more than a few minutes you probably should go up first or do some of the routine earlier in the evening. DH faffs around at bedtime then complains he can't nod off even though he has woken himself up.

Then he's completely mad.

And you should probably take longer.

Maybe he's worried you're not taking long enough?
