If you have private healthcare please can you help me work this out and what’s sensible?

Firstly, am I right that private healthcare policy through a company is better because it doesn’t include paying any premiums the following year if you do end up using it?

If you pay for it yourself rather than through work, is it worth it? If you claim won’t the cost go up massively the following year so it makes it not worth it?

Thanks :)

It depends on the policy in either case. In a work policy you have a pool of members paying and claiming which means individuals are not usually penalised for any claims.

I imagine joining a work scheme would be cost effective.

If you have the option to have it through your work I would do that. It’ll be cheaper than a personal policy and you are right that you claiming won’t impact the cost as much.

If you are worried about other family members not being covered, check with your employer as they might be able to add them on. I have added DH and DD to my work plan.
