I have to get to London tonight and just watching my travel time on google maps getting longer and longer. Is there any chance it will get better anti clockwise around Reading?! I need to leave at 4:30

How do I find out if it will die down? It’s now saying 2h 40 for my journey instead of 1h 40. Anyone have any insider knowledge, it’s around Slough

The Google leave by arrive by time estimator is pretty good. It will know if it is a crash that is likely to clear or typical volume of traffic

TianasBayou · 03/07/2025 15:15

Do you mean the M4?

Seeline · 03/07/2025 15:22

Where are you travelling to/from?

theemmadilemma · 03/07/2025 15:23

In my experience, Google is depressingly accurate for that.

theemmadilemma · 03/07/2025 15:24

Reading/Bracknell is also always shit around that time, so I expect the M25 is the same given the state of the M3, M4 and roads between them in rush hour.

SoftPillow · 03/07/2025 15:25

Have a look at Waze. Also very accurate and will suggest alternative routes that might or might not be worth the bother, eg 20 mile detour for a 2 minute saving.

If there has been a specific incident that has caused the increase it might have cleared when you get to it and your journey time could decrease.

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/07/2025 15:26

It won’t get better, only worse, as it moves into rush hour. Suggest you set off sooner just in case. That area is a notorious traffic black spot plus there are lots of issues in West London on the A4/M4 route due to road closures at present.

P0d · 03/07/2025 15:28

Oh bloody hell! Going from Hassocks to Wembley. Will try Waze. I can’t leave any earlier sadly

It’s road works not an accident

I’ve been looking at this time for the last few days and it’s been an hour less

I have just arrived home after being on the m25. It's pretty congested, especially around Heathrow. I'd leave earlier tbh.

Lonelycrab · 03/07/2025 15:44

I would have thought the a243/a3 past new Malden would be much more direct. That bit of the m25 you mention is always gridlocked hell at this time of day even without roadworks.

But having said that, most of London is at this point of the afternoon. Good luck op.
