Window screens?

Reading the thread on shutters this morning inspired me to finally ask my burning question - "why aren't insect screens standard on windows?" I've been here 7 years and every summer, as I battle flies, wasps and mosquitoes, I curse the lack of screens.
We will eventually buy here and when we do, screens will be a priority even if we have to import them from bloody Canada 😡

I'd much rather have the occasional insect in my house ( and it is occasional- no idea where you live, but I'm certainly not plagued by bugs) than some screen reducing light, views and airflow.

I moved to England 20 years ago but as you can see from my username I grew up with insects and screens on windows. As you know, screens neither reduce light nor air flow. And nothing says summer like the slap of a screen door.

I think it depends where you live in the UK. I'm fortunate that there seem to be no mosquitos in my area and the other insects mostly stay outside. We live in an old house which stays cool most ot the time and we are able to keep lots of windows closed which helps.
