Pram left overnight in the garden!

Definetly not "end of the world" stuff, but I got quite angry about this.
We have a double buggy that doesn't fit through our front door so needs to be built up outside every time we want to go out, not an issue. Monday mornings are nursery run mornings, I need to get the 7:20am bus. DW always at work. We're both females.
She was sorting jobs out last night while I got the baby settled for sleep. She came upstairs and told me she had built the pram up and just left it in the garden! We have never done that before and I don't like the idea of it. She said it wasn't going to rain so didn't see the issue. Problem is we saw a rat in the garden last week and after speaking with the neighbours turns out that 3 doors down have a rat problem.
I didn't shout at her but I did irritably tell her to go and get the pram in the house because I didn't want rats touching it and she said I was being absolutely ridiculous.
So..
YABU - Leaving the pram outside (weather approving) clearly saves time.
YANBU - Rats carry diseases and its not safe to leave it out.
And would you leave a pram outside at all regardless of the rats?

Tbh my first thought would be that I wouldn’t want spiders going in there! Both my husband and I have reacted badly to spider bites in the past, and I wouldn’t want to risk my little one getting bitten! I’d also be worried about a bee or wasp settling in there before I put LO in there and getting stung. 🙈 But also, how would you know a rat hadn’t been in there and peed?!

Cattywillow · 30/06/2025 11:23

My DP and I often disagree about stuff like this. But if it matters to me, I just do the extra work. Where I live there is a thing called rat lungworm disease and I would be careful about leaving any baby things outside if I knew there were rats around.

sowemeetagainbananaman · 30/06/2025 11:25

Always left buggy outside in dry weather, just put rain cover over it.

lifeonmars100 · 30/06/2025 11:27

Mine got knicked and I only left it outside when I brought small child inside, made tea, did bedtime and got them settled. Popped out to bring it in and a thieving scroat had helped themselves. This was years ago but scum are a permanent feature of life sadly

Finteq · 30/06/2025 11:27

I put my washing out last night.

And left it out all night.

I honestly thought somebody left a baby in the pram over night before reading the post. 😂 Of course yabu, if it e going to rain there is no problem, perhaps you could buy a cover? Rats would never really cross my mind…

Even if you had seen one crawling around where said pram would be left?

You had me at the rats!!
YANBU.

latetothefisting · 30/06/2025 11:31

Why did you "irritably tell" her and not just ask her politely?

I don't think either of you are necessarily wrong but you probably made it into a bigger thing than it needed to be. If you are the one who doesn't want it left outside then you should be the one to go and get it, or at least say nicely "ugh I'm probably being silly but I don't really like the idea of it being left out, would you mind bringing it in please?"

I probably would have been annoyed as well if I thought I'd done my partner a favour and they spoke to me like a useless employee.

Newnamesagain · 30/06/2025 11:35

I'd be more worried about the rats nibbling the toddler seat. There's no chance there's not at least a raisin wedged in there somewhere and the padding makes nice nests for little baby rats.

Properchips · 30/06/2025 11:36

NewGoldFox · 30/06/2025 08:31

You don’t want spiders rubbing their willies all over it.

😂Ewww! Please take that picture from out of my head! 😂

herbalteabag · 30/06/2025 11:42

I'm sure I left mine out by mistake and it was a bit damp in the morning but it recovered. I wouldn't be worried about rats, I expect they have better things to do than get in your pram!
I think it's better to keep it inside though. Still, it's already happened now so forget about it.

ColourThief · 30/06/2025 11:43

I know everyone is making out you’re ridiculous but I’m ten children in and never leave my pram outside, never have and never will over all of the prams I’ve owned.
Firstly, I don’t want it getting ruined and secondly I wouldn’t trust someone not robbing it.

Too many street wandering cats in my neighbourhood that would use it as a bed or a toilet too.

My pram is a £1500 double electric pram (I didn’t pay this, I was gifted it) and there’s no bloody way I’d risk being stolen or ruined.

Blueberrymuffinsforthewin · 30/06/2025 11:46

Now that I've seen how old your baby is I agree I wouldn't want it outside built up however your DP probably just thought she was helping by doing it.

Needspaceforlego · 30/06/2025 11:51

Op i wouldn't leave it outside either. At a push I'd leave the frame out but I wouldn't leave the seats / carrycot out. Animals, spiders and just generally getting damp in the night.

Her hearts in the right place, even if she didn't think it through.

levampire · 30/06/2025 11:51

People making statements like this have clearly never had to deal with rats.

It's not an idle fantasy. OP has said there is a rat infestation 3 doors down, and OP has already seen a rat in her garden. Rats are opportunists and will use any material they can find for bedding, and piss all over whatever as they go.

Thatsrhesummeroverthen · 30/06/2025 11:54

I'd worry about pigeons and other forms of bird poo more. Build frame, bring in soft parts.

Ninkynonkpinkyponks · 30/06/2025 11:59

As a one off here and there it wouldn’t be the end of the world for me. We don’t leave it out every night

chaosmaker · 30/06/2025 12:01

@dontcomeatme what about dew making it damp as well if it's a padded one?

RachTheAlpaca · 30/06/2025 12:04

Could you baby wear your 3 month old and get a cheap fold up buggy for your toddler?

I can, but my 3 month old is 21lb already I can only wear him for so long. I had the same issue when my 2yo was a baby. Double pram is just easier for me. Plus I'm ebf and he just roots on me constantly in the carrier, doesn't settle because he smells milk x

At my daughter's nursery all the children's prams/buggies stay outside in all weathers. They do have a little shelter but you have to be there early to get a space, otherwise you stick the cover on and hope for the best, or take it home and bring it again at pick up. Obviously they're not there overnight but still outside (and the nursery's own 3 and 4 seaters are outside overnight). Now my daughter uses a wheelchair it stays inside at nursery even if she's not using it, but that's for insurance reasons.

SailingYachty · 30/06/2025 12:16

I wouldn’t want a pram left outside either, especially for a young baby. I don’t know why but there’s a proper infestation of pigeons where I live this year and they poo on everything! It’s disgusting.
Id try to be nice about it, but if was knackered I might have responded you did!

AutumnFog · 30/06/2025 12:16

dontcomeatme · 30/06/2025 08:42

I just didn't want to lie my baby in something a potentially disease riddled animal had crawled on. He is only 3 months so currently doesn't use the slides or garden furniture 😅

Why not leave the frame outside then it's just the 2 attachments left to carry out and clip on?

JRM17 · 30/06/2025 12:17

My main question is... Why on earth would you buy a pram that doesn't fit in ur house or at least fold up enough to fit??? There are LOADS of double options these days. But other than that had I been ur DW I'd have told you to crack on and move it urself if u were gonna piss and whinge.
