I’ve got back from holiday and my door won’t close… WTF?!

I’ve just returned from a 2 night trip - long weekend, and one of the internal doors in my apartment that I left ajar (laundry room) will not close!

wtf?!

How and why does this happen? It was absolutely fine before I left.. no sticking, no issues…

I can see a small gap at the top of the doorframe (as normal) and at the bottom too, but down the side where the latch would go into the hole in the doorframe it’s not matching up properly (like the wood on the door itself has got bigger and isn’t slotting into the frame!!!!) and therefore not closing..

wtf?!

It’s probably the heat

rosierosierosie · 29/06/2025 20:07

It’ll be the heat

BarbaraVineFan · 29/06/2025 20:07

It’s probably the heat- it’s expanded the wood

rubyslippers · 29/06/2025 20:07

Probably door has swelled because of the heat

Cakefolk · 29/06/2025 20:07

Wooden doors can expand in summer

Thanks all. I live abroad but left my air conditioning on, as I always do, nothings changed… so really surprised!

just puzzled me as I got home 🤣

You left your air conditioning on while you were on holiday? That's really not ideal for your bills or the environment.

Is there damp coming from the ceiling?

MaySea · 29/06/2025 20:22

If not the heat, it's probably damp. Might be worth getting a dehumidifier.

watermoon · 29/06/2025 20:23

@RobinHeartella yes, our landlord tells us to - as we live in Dubai it’s been over 45 degrees daily so turning it off causes mold and damp within hours..

It is much to my dissatisfaction too, I don’t like the thought of what it could be doing to the environment.

no damp etc from what I can see (or smell!!)

It's either warped with the heat or the humidity has caused it to swell

its not that long though, only two nights. If I'd have been away, I wouldn't have bothered turning anything off either.
