Do you wear sun screen daily? If so, what do you use?

That's it really.

I'm pretty pale and generally avoid the negative impact of the sun by avoiding the sun. I wear sun cream if its very hot and I'm going to be outside but I generally just avoid it by staying in.

But talking to colleagues recently, many say they wear sun screen daily. And I've seen similar said on here.

I tend to use dry feel factor 50+ children's sunspray for sensitive skin. I can't abide the feeling of suncream on my skin but can tolerate this

I use it on my face too but I find just having it on skin makes me sweat more and I just feel like I'm overheating with slimy sunscreen sliding off. Lovely.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? Thanks.

I second the person using La Roche Posay Anthelios - it’s my go to and I think amongst the top few most effective sunscreens. Doesn’t leave a cast and doesn’t irritate my menopausal overly sensitive eczema ridden skin either!

Arseynal · 29/06/2025 14:26

Biore factor 50 - it’s watery and barely feels there. If I’m going to have a full day out in proper sun I use something heavier and mineral based.

Another vote for Alturist. I have super sensitive skin that burns easily. I hate the feel of sunscreen but this is really light on the skin. It's really cheap too but I think I'd still buy it if it was expensive. I love their other skin care products too.

Katemax82 · 29/06/2025 15:10

I use aldi lacura face factor 50, before that id use skin+me factor 50 for face

amicisimma · 29/06/2025 15:10

Wilko sensitive factor 50. I've used it daily for years. I guess I'm going to have to find something else when my last tube runs out.

okydokethen · 29/06/2025 15:16

Face - murad oil/pore reducing moisturiser with spf45
body - after showering I use Vaseline spf30 all over - I wanted to get into habit of moisturising more so thought I might as well use spf.

UltraViolette Future Fluid SPF 50

Absolutely amazing stuff - discovered it on holiday in Australia and now I’m hooked. Doesn’t break me out since it’s a mineral based formula, incredibly light on the skin and has a slight tint so gives you the most gorgeous glow

No3392 · 29/06/2025 15:18

I like using sprays for my face. I have had Garnier, la Roche posay and ultrasun

I wear an SPF 50 from Beauty Pie which works well as a make up primer too

Me too. I have very sensitive skin and it is the only one I’ve found that doesn’t make my eyes sting.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 29/06/2025 15:21

I use Garnier sensitive advanced factor 50

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 29/06/2025 15:23

Ultrasun f30. I don't wear foundation so I don't know how it works with that. I only put it on my face as I use tretinoin - I'm not outside enough to need it on the rest of me.

GreyCarpet · 29/06/2025 15:25

Thanks to you all!

Seems I have some research to do!

I don't wear make up in the daytime (and rarely in the evenings tbf) so I won't be putting anything on top of it. It's really the greasy feeling/shine/stickiness I want to avoid. I like the stuff that has a dry/matte finish.

I'm definitely going to look into these though and give some a go.

Another vote for altruist. I also use it on my DS. We are both very pale and burn easily. I can’t feel it once it’s soaked in. The main thing is that you put enough on. I was surprised how much you need to cover face and neck properly.

NowYouSee · 29/06/2025 15:27

On my face I tent to use Biore watery Essence or various Korean ones.

I typically cover up rather than cream a lot of me but I like the Aldi Laura dry mist at present - only a 30 (I don’t think they do a 50 in that) so not for extended strong sun but enough for shorter times.

Simonjt · 29/06/2025 15:31

Beauty of Joseon on my face, neck and back of hands of everyday, that and LRP are the only ones that don’t sting my eyes.

Muffsies · 29/06/2025 15:46

I am very pale, with pale freckles and ginger/strawberry blonde hair, I do not tan one bit so I have to be really careful. I also have fairly oily skin that's prone to spots. On my face I use:
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Oil Control SPF 50+ Gel-Cream
or
Eucerin Sun Face Oil Control Sun Gel-Cream Dry Touch SPF50+

Both wear really well under makeup and do not make my face look like an oil-slick, they have never blocked pores or caused a breakout, even when used daily.

On the rest of my body (and on my kids) I use:
Eucerin Sensitive Protect Transparent Dry Touch Sun Spray SPF50

Me and the kids hate sticky sun creams, and this is so easy to apply and never leaves a residue. Most importantly, my youngest and I are the whitest people you'll ever meet, and we've never been burnt whilst using it.

These are all fairly expensive, but they all work really well so worth it imo. You can make savings by getting them via Lookfantastic, or pick them up if you see an offer in Boots.

GreyCarpet · 29/06/2025 15:46

I think I'm going to try the Biore watery Essence to begin with! It says its a daily moisturiser too so seems a good place to start.

(Now, if anyone could suggest a good night moisturiser for over 50s skin... 😁)

I really am utterly clueless 🙈

@GreyCarpet I use Tret at night from Skin + Me so slather on CeraVe moisturising cream at night and in the day. I recommended Biore and use it as the last step after moisturiser in the morning and before makeup.

TheOGCCL · 29/06/2025 15:53

SPF should be a separate product really. Certainly SPF in make up isn't enough as you wouldn't be putting enough on.

I use Eucerin oil control but there are a lot of nice, light formulas. Gone are the days of trying to rub thick greasy white cream into the skin and ending up all shiny or with a cast.

Wearing SPF is probably the single biggest thing you can do for anti-ageing, if that's of interest. I wear it every day, rain or shine, winter or summer - it's just part of my daily regime.

hoarahloux · 29/06/2025 15:58

Altruist for my body, Round Lab Birch Juice Suncream for my face. I really like the Korean suncreams that tend to be super moisturising, this one is my favourite.

muddyford · 29/06/2025 15:58

La Roche-Posay, Nivea or Bondi Sands. All SPF 50+ fragrance free for sensitive facial skin. The Bondi Sands is a bit gloopy and I may not buy it again, but it does leave my skin very dewy when I clean it off.

Muffsies · 29/06/2025 16:00

If over 50s, you should be looking for a moisturiser that has peptides, or applying a peptide serum before your moisturiser. Retinols will improve texture, fine lines and skin turnover, and Azelaic Acid will even your skin tone, reduce redness and increase skin turnover.

There are so many active ingredients in these things, what sort of thing are you looking for?

TerrorAustralis · 29/06/2025 16:03

I currently use Beauty of Joseon. It’s moisturising, but not heavy and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. LRP gets a lot of love, but it makes me break out.
