Just that really, daughter says head is very itchy, round some red spots and some white dots in hair that only showed up in camera.

Any help much appreciated!

maybe but could also just be a bit of dry scalp. Comb with a nit comb to get your answer

Can’t tell from the photo. You can usually see the lice crawling along the hair. If you run a nit comb through you will soon see if there are any.

Yes comb over the bathroom wash basin (if this is white) and then make a video as sharp as you can. And then close in on the picture and try not to scream if it is nits, because it was a horrible shock for me. It looked like dust, but in close-up I saw legs and movement.

I find combing in tiny sections spraying each section with water as you go... This apparently stuns the nits and they don't move so quick. Also keep combed sections away from uncombed .. sounds like you need 6 hands to do this but trust me, it gets easier the more you do it!

Get the bit comb and do it with conditioner in. The nits move but the eggs don’t. If those white bits aren’t a dry scalp they will be stuck to the hair strand - the eggs. Then most def nits. Do the conditioner method over and over if you don’t want to use chemicals to resolve. Good luck.

Thank you all, I will try those tomorrow!

In the meantime, this may be a better more zoomed image!

Oh they do look like eggs on the hair strands on the right.

Toottooot · 29/06/2025 00:09

Can you pull the white bits out easily or do they feel ‘glued’ to the hair? Glued is likely hatched eggs.

Welshcake15 · 29/06/2025 00:10

I'm sorry to say that I'm pretty sure I can see some eggs.

Vamousse was great when my daughter had nits. Got them all in one treatment (obviously followed the directions for checking over the days after treatment).

Swimswans · 29/06/2025 08:28

Oww when reading this immediately my scalp starts itching.
My girl does not go to school without braids or a ponytail anymore.
Whole family got them, all through summer break last year. Awful.
We sat with showercaps and loads of vinegar underneath.
Combing helps the most.
And dont worry about bedding or clothing. Live nits need to stay in hair to survive. Nits on pillows are already done.

ConflictedBeagle · 29/06/2025 13:45

Thanks everyone, she said she isn't itchy anymore but got treatment to be on the safe side!

Have you gone through it with a comb?! You need to check properly! If she has them she can pass them on! Be thorough - no one else wants them if she has!
