and I know I've done a bloody stupid thing but - changing a wet nappy in public

I feel so stupid and I know I'm in the wrong but I changed DD nappy in the cafe area of a farm park today. It was 4.30 and there was no-one around, the nearest people were sitting 15 feet away and the baby changing station was occupied. I knew that it was just a wet one and that she had on dungarees so no part of her body or the used nappy would touch the table so I changed her.
A member of staff came up to me late and said that a doctor had seen me do it and he is going to report the park to the dept of health.
I know the staff member was freaked out but when I asked what this would mean she said they would probably get closed down.

I know its a bloody stupid thing to have done and I feel a complete mug but does anyone have any idea what's going to happen?
I figured the best scenario would be a get a snotty letter from park telling me off but the worst, well I have a vivid imagination and I'm thinking all kinds of stuff - does anyone have any ideas.

ps - yes I know it was a bloody stupid thing to do.

eh?

2point4kids · 24/05/2008 18:07

a cafe cant be shut down for somethng a customer does can it?
surely they are judged on their reaction to you changng a nappy there instead. ie. they should have asked you not to do it, then thouroughly cleaned the table.
As long as they did that they will be ok.
You will not be in trouble either way!

mybrainaches · 24/05/2008 18:07

Just forget about it, I bet you dont hear anything more on it.

Rachmumoftwo · 24/05/2008 18:07

It is a bit off, to see someone change a baby in an eating area. But I wouldn't fret, it's done now, and you can't undo it. The worst thing that will happen is the cafe gets a visit for Environmental Health, and they put up a few new signs.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 24/05/2008 18:07

Hey, hope you don't get any serious repercussions from this. I don't know if it makes you feel any better but I have changed DD's nappy (with no idea if it was going to be just wet or worse) on a restaurant table (admittedly in the corner away from other customers, but still) at a busy lunchtime, at the insistence of the manageress

*from EH, not for.

themoon66 · 24/05/2008 18:08

I think it was a bit wrong to change her on a cafe table. If the nappy was only wet (not pooey) could you not have waited a couple of mins for the changing station to become free?

I don't understand why you did it [puzzled]

blinkingthreetimes · 24/05/2008 18:08

What? Sounds a bit strange to me.
Surely pig shit is far more dangerous than baby wee and that will get trod all over the cafe .

booradley · 24/05/2008 18:08

I went to a farm parm, during our visit my DD needed her nappy changing, but instead of waiting for the baby changing toilet to be free I changed her on one of the tables in the cafe. Some doctor saw me and report us to the staff saying he was going to report the park to the Dept of Health. Are they in trouble. Am I in trouble.

It's not very hygenic but what an over reaction! It would be the Local Council's Env Health Dept that would be informed and I can't imagine for one minute that they would close the Park down for that, they're so overworked they probably won't even follow it up. The staff can't be expected to be responsible for that. I wouldn't waste one more minute worrying about it. They can't do anything to you anyway. Don't worry about it.

DarrellRivers · 24/05/2008 18:10

Seriously, I've done worse.
Sometimes you get away with it, other times, other people 'holier than thou' make you feel awful for being such a crap person
It's done now, you feel bad, the cafe and farm will be fine, try to move on

misdee · 24/05/2008 18:11

honestly, you shouldnt have used the table, i have a thing about that myself, urgh. i always use floors or two chairs put together with a mat underneath.

misdee · 24/05/2008 18:11

i doubt they would follow it up though tbh.

DarrellRivers · 24/05/2008 18:12

yes , perhaps not the table, the floor or chairs as misdee said work as well
nevermind, 'tis done now

beansmum · 24/05/2008 18:13

Nobody is going to get in trouble, but ew. I'm sure it's fine, no pee on the table or anything, but I wouldn't want to eat off a surface someone's bare bum had been on.

booradley · 24/05/2008 18:14

AS said previous, I'M STUPID.
No I'm not really and I don't know why. I was just in the busy busy place you get when you've been working for most of the day and rushing round the farm park so DD still has some sort of a day with her MUm.

I would knock someone for doing it if I saw them. I just thought its only a wet nappy and her bum etc isn't going to touch the table and there's no-one around - certainly no-one eating only some people sat at a table 15 feet away.

I'm fretting because the park took my name and address and I worry about stuff like this.

i am rather good at changing nappies with baby on my lap or whilst they are still in theior buggu. mainly becuase ater almost 3hyears i never did find baby changign facilities at harefield.

solo · 24/05/2008 18:15

Why didn't you lay her across your lap to change her? I wouldn't have put a baby on the table to change it tbh.

tissy · 24/05/2008 18:16

probably wasn't a doctor really, probably just a grumpy man who wanted to make a fuss

FrannyandZooey · 24/05/2008 18:16

oh did you do it on the table? I read your post as it being on the chair or on your lap

Iota · 24/05/2008 18:18

I think that it's unacceptable to change a nappy in an eating area. I'm surprised that so many on this thread seem to think it's OK
