To think these sentences are a crime in themselves!

I haven't stopped thinking about this since I read it yesterday. This poor girl must have gone through so much for these men to walk away with suspended sentences. She was probably encouraged to come forward to stop them hurting anyone else!

A composite of three police mugshots. Callum Hesketh has short light brown hair and is wearing a black top. Michael Linfoot has short brown hair and is wearing a white top. Thomas Rae has short dark brown hair.

Bolton: Three men sentenced for sexual abuse of groomed girl - BBC News

The 15-year-old victim was groomed via a social media messaging platform, a court heard.

"I want to send a clear message to any perpetrators of sexual abuse; that we will not tolerate this abhorrent behaviour, and we will bring you to justice," he added.

Oh, the irony.

Indeed. Just a meaningless word salad always trotted out.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 28/06/2025 11:01

I thought exactly the same. No justice at all. Just reinforces the message that you can basically do what you like to women and girls and get away with it.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2025 11:02

So they’ve been named and shamed (if they feel shame?) and free to go.

There is this
"Ask for a Crown Court sentence to be reviewed - GOV.UK" https://www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review
Anyone can ask for a sentence to be reviewed - you do not have to be involved in the case.
Only one person needs to ask for a sentence to be reviewed.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/06/2025 11:22

I think this vote will be unanimous, well I'd seriously worry about anyone who said YABU. I better not type what's on my mind because id probably end up getting more time than they're been given. Oh my mistake they haven't been given any time have they.

Thank you, I will do this now. I don’t know if it makes a difference if more than person asks but it’s worth a try! Let’s get some traction on this post and get everyone to ask for a review!

Oh, the irony.

That was a detective who said that, not the judge. He’s not responsible for the sentence.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 28/06/2025 11:30

It's actually far worse than officially getting no justice at all.

If the criminals hadn't been caught and were still at large, that would be bad enough; but it's the fact that the authorities have caught them and had the power to suitably punish them and send out a very strong condemnatory message to the public, but instead have told them "Ooh, that was a bit naughty, wasn't it?" and officially endorsed their actions as no big deal.

Threadofquiet · 28/06/2025 11:35

I have sent the request. Very brief reading of the sentencing guidelines suggests it’s a category 1, culpability a offence so the starting point should be 4 years custodial. Completely agree with’ifyiuputasausage…’ the message this sends is so damaging. Why would anyone bother to even try to get justice!

OP posts:
Ponoka7 · 28/06/2025 11:39

I've seen some really violent men not get a custodial sentence, it's been pure luck that they haven't killed their ex. In some cases, children have been assaulted. While non violent women are getting prison sentences, because our prisons aren't overcrowded.

The Labour government has done well to deport foreign criminals, to free up space. But we need judges to get the memo on violent and sexual offences and not fraud.

I never claimed it was the judge and I know it was the detective, so not sure what point you’re trying to make.

bythefireplace · 28/06/2025 11:46

Especially with the previous stuff she had gone through, for it to happen again

I'm in the process of doing the form. Is that all that you've put?

Threadofquiet · 28/06/2025 11:47

Yes

I'd be happy to see them lined up against a wall and shot. That's the sort of message I'd like to send.

Superhansrantowindsor · 28/06/2025 12:20

I have completed the form for this sentence to be reviewed. I would urge others to do the same.

Thank you so much. I had no idea this could be done! I've so many times thought that sentences were too lenient, and now there's something I can do.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve submitted my request.

This is a horrendous story - and the victim has been hugely let down by our ‘justice’ system

myplace · 28/06/2025 12:58

Is it because they were 17 at the time?

Threadofquiet · 28/06/2025 13:00

I don’t suppose anyone has a daily mail account who can post the link to the form in their comment section. Over 2k comments on their article. If not I guess I will have to set one up 😳😳

Men avoid jail for luring girl, 15, into van and sexually abusing her

Probably.

I've been trying to find the Judge's sentencing remarks but can't find any.

hattie43 · 28/06/2025 13:13

This is outrageous. I read it yesterday and if any case would get me onto the streets protesting this figures highly . That poor girl , why was her experience so diminished that they got no actual jail time . Something has gone badly wrong with our judiciary.

ParmaViolletts · 28/06/2025 13:16

Three men kidnapped and raped a 12 year old in Dover, understandably she's a totally different child. I wonder what measly sentence they will get. They also filmed it.

ParmaViolletts · 28/06/2025 13:19

What a disgrace I've said before our judiciary needs a massive over haul.
