Need Quick Advice Please - Inheritance

Posting here for some signposting if possible please....

I'm divorced and single with one child (12). Im estranged from all family (my choice). I was recently told that as I'm unmarried and my child is a minor, should the worst happen to me my estate could be claimed by my estranged parents. Could anyone experienced or professional advise if this is the case please. I'm arranging a will, would this be sufficient in ensuring my estate goes to my son? Hopefully not needed for a long, long time but want to be prepared. I live in Scotland.

Thank you.

Not a lawyer.
See a lawyer for your will.
Make sure executors / trustees are named and if need be write a letter of wishes re managing the trust.
See a lawyer.

Thank you, I have read this but still confused re parental claim. Appreciate this though.

@TeenToTwenties I definitely will be seeing a lawyer ASAP. Was just hoping for some peace of mind meantime. Also appreciate this advice, thank you.
