Gp telephone appointments

I have a telephone appointment with a gp tomorrow. It doesn't botheer me having a phone appointment as it is just to discuss the results of a blood test. The thing that bugs me is that there is no time slot for the appointment. I get that they can run behind. I am just paranoid about talking to the doctor if they phone when i am doing a number 2.

I took my phone everywhere- including the loo. Gp won’t know if you’re on the loo- unless you flush,of course!

Yeah I find it really annoying, if they can make a time slot for in person apps, why can’t they do it for phone calls?

Yes it's awful waiting for the call and worrying you'll miss it. I live in an area with terrible signal so a few times the call has gone straight to voicemail. This is even if you manage to get through in the extremely narrow call window in the morning to get an appointment.

This. I would be screwed if i wasn't on holiday. I am back at work on Monday. My best friend is a bus driver.

OP isn’t at work on that day, though!

Oodlesof · 26/06/2025 21:05

I now pull a sickie on days when I have to make a GP appointment.

gamerchick · 26/06/2025 21:07

Yeah you'll have to carry your phone everywhere and yes you can guarantee it'll be when you're taking a dump or risking a quick shower.

It still would be nice to have a time slot though.

I suppose you just have to treat a phone appt like an in person one and try to book it when you are free.
Although a doctor isn't going to care if you answer mid poop, I'm sure they have heard and seen worse!

How much time do you spend per day taking a dump?

alexalisten · 26/06/2025 21:38

Yeah its so annoying as it wastes a whole day as you can't do anything else. And if you miss their call you get told you missed the appointment. No you missed the appointment it was booked for 10 am and its now 3pm I was available at 10am

MsPug · 26/06/2025 21:40

Have a look on your nhs app at the upcoming appointments section. They text me saying 'you have an appointment on x day in the morning' so I looked on the app and it was 11.30am. Hope that helps!

Reggiebo · 26/06/2025 21:41

I had one..was scheduled for PM but rang in the morning. I just took my phone everywhere. I was in a museum so most must have overheard. It's definitely not good.

That 11.30 means nothing

MargaretThursday · 26/06/2025 21:46

Can't even get a telephone call now from ours.

Ours is (mis) diagnosis by text with no contact at all.

It is a case of sods law. I could carry my phone about all day. The gp is bound to phone in the time it takes me to do a dump.

Ime if you don't answer the first phone call they'll phone you again later in the day. Did you ask if there was a time slot? And you could possibly phone up in the morning for a rough time

longtompot · 26/06/2025 23:29

@TwinklyFawn if you have the Airmid app then that usually tells you the time slot that the call will happen in. I agree there is nothing more frustrating than waiting for a call from a gp that will either come when you are otherwise indisposed or not at all.
