Mums Manners again

So I always take my mum out for food - It varies, sometimes just new finds, sometimes the city or local etc. Anyway I sent her an instagram post today of a new find and said "we're going" -(meaning I'll take her), she said "Wow, where?" and I said "XXX, 20min drive from you" and she said "LOL im going now"
.....an hour later I get a pic of the food where shes been and gone with my brother. Not only do I find this incredibly rude, I'll also add she never takes me out as shes unemployed and ill, which ive never minded because I'm a good earner....but im sitting here in a cold cap at chemo.... AIBU or am I right to feel annoyed? What a lack of consideration.

Was it a misunderstanding- that you were going with someone else?

roseymoira · 26/06/2025 20:03

That’s awful. Zero awareness. Hope someone treats you to some nice food there

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 20:04

@tryingtobesogood No when I say to her "we're going" its me telling her im taking her.

That's really poor form, surely she knew what you meant? Did she take your brother out then or did he pay.
Can't believe she would treat you like that on such a crappy day.

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 20:12

@TomatoSandwiches No she knows i meant she and I...as I say, i always find lil food spots to show her.

Yanbu. That's a strangely insensitive thing to do. Is she a bit odd, generally?

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 26/06/2025 20:16

Maybe save your cash to treat yourself instead op?

Poopeepoopee · 26/06/2025 20:21

I think it all depends on how she generally treats you to be honest.
Maybe it was just a spur of the moment thing, albeit, a bit insensitive.

You know your mum best - is she ususaly kind caring and thoughtful

AbzMoz · 26/06/2025 20:23

I’m sorry your mum is so insensitive OP. That must be both hurtful and frustrating.
And I hope the chemo is going well (if that’s the right

If I was trying to see another viewpoint perhaps would your mum in a rather strange way is illustrating your bro can do nice things for her too so you can have a relaxing evening (or maybe I draw this conclusion after years of navigating my mother’s tortuous rationales). In any case her communication is definitely lacking!

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 20:28

No brother doesnt pay, also unemployed

Where to start?!

Basically one of those utterly bizarre families that I only encounter on mumsnet

Hotchocbombe · 26/06/2025 20:33

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 20:28

No brother doesnt pay, also unemployed

So I wonder who paid

I won’t ask why your mum and brother are both unemployed

Hotchocbombe · 26/06/2025 20:39

You’re either starting threads about how self absorbed your mum is; or her poor table manners; or fact that you’re the only one who arranges anything for her to do and now this.

bloody hell op!

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 20:48

@Hotchocbombe Sometimes I just need to vent to strangers. 🤷🏻‍♀️.

She would have paid, she gets DWP.

That's not on is it, focus on yourself a bit more and others who put effort in to their relationship they have with you, take a good friend when you feel better. She should be looking after you, I'm sorry she's not put you first at all here.

Fatcrab · 26/06/2025 22:40

@SheridansPortSalut Im starting to wonder 🤣...shes not got much awareness.
