Confused and scared - early pregnancy scan not showing anything

Hi all,

I thought I was 8 weeks going by date of my last period, but went for an early scan as I have been spotting the past couple of days, I also have a history of miscarriage, they scanned me, said I’m more like 5 weeks and no baby seen, just the sack.

I’m 44 so I knew there was a higher chance of miscarriage or non viable pregnancy.

I am to go back in two weeks time for another scan to see if a baby has developed in the sack.

Has anyone had similar and its worked out positively? Really anxious right now.

Oh and my cervix is thick , so they’re not sure where bleeding is coming from.

I'm really sorry -- I've been in this situation and it's hell. In your case I suppose the question is could your dates be wrong? When did you test positive?

Can’t remember exact date but was around mid May I tested positive , possibly around 20th.

I too had a history of miscarriage and it’s tough.

Where did you go for a scan and what sort of scan did you have? All my scans were transvaginal before twelve weeks as abdominal scans don’t always give a great view at that early stage.

it was a transvaginal scan.

I took a photo of the screen on my phone and that’s what was found. I’m not even sure there’s a yolk sac there, just looks like an empty sac? I guess I’m just wanting reassurance as the 2 weeks wait is torture.

Bump - in case anyone can give me positive stories.

Sorry you’re going through this OP. Are you sure it was 20th May you tested positive? If so you’d be 7 weeks minimum, not 5. Was the scan at the hospital or was it a private early scan? Sometimes they don’t have as good scanners.

My empty sac on TV scan is now 15 and half and 6ft tall.

I was a lot younger than you are but I’d had a completely out of whack cycle which meant my missed period was literally just after I’d ovulated. Then I’d started bleeding. Unfortunately it’s not all positive because it was discovered I’d lost said 15.5 yr olds twin.

The waiting is horrendous and I hope it goes quickly for you.

Hospital scan

On 5th June I had a clear blue showing 2-3 weeks which means 4-5 weeks I think? I find it all so confusing.

Still spotting brown/reddish brown too. No cramping. Just really tired.

I wouldn’t go by the clear blue test dates as they aren’t accurate, but yes that thinking would right that you add 2 weeks to them. You should be 7-8 weeks now going by your positive pregnancy test.
