To think this woman needs to stop jumping the queue every day?

My child's nursery has a queuing system and drop off can be painfully slow. You have to queue along the narrow path that runs from the car park at the back, down to the front door, with a fence the runs all along the path, then from the front door there is a gate that opens out onto the street and you can go. The manager on the door is an older lady and likes to take her time chatting to each parent, asking how the child is, getting a full handover, and if you don't get near the front nice and early you can be stood there for 20 minutes or more.
The path where we queue is wide enough for someone to stand, with or without a buggy.
There is one woman that turns up every day with one of those big, wide, side-by-side buggies for her two kids. She can't get it down the narrow path to queue, so she just goes straight to the front door to hand her kids over, where the manager will talk to her at length about each kid individually for ages. Today, she also wanted to discuss her funding so this took even longer.
AIBU to think she should bugger off with her double buggy and queue like everyone else? carry or put the one year old in a sling and get the 2 year old to walk or stand in the queue? It already takes forever and I find it really unfair she gets to queue-jump.

I think the nursery need to look at their system because having people waiting for 20 minutes is rediculous!

ShoeeMcfee · 25/06/2025 13:50

This would really piss me off. I agree with PP, email the nursery and ask them to change their system.

cheddercherry · 25/06/2025 13:52

That sounds like a ridiculous system so I’d be addressing that directly with nursery rather than the woman who tbh is doing what most of us would be thinking/ wishing we’d have the balls to do in that insane situation! (Obviously highly annoying of her, but come on who would endure that drop off with their kids every day!)

TinyTempest · 25/06/2025 13:53

You’re blaming wrong person.

She shouldn’t have to rearrange her children just because the manager is ignorant.

Complain about the time wasting.

People have complained but nothing changes.
The manager is well known and well liked so I think people don't like to complain too much but if she just didn't go on and on quite so much and took her time taking each kid in, helping them off with their coat, sending them to go and sit down and then slowly coming back out to the next child, it wouldn't be so bad. It took half the time when she was on Holiday and the deputy did door duty. She's lovely, but no sense of urgency at all.

It was so nice when my eldest left nursery and school was a different experience. Just fling open the doors in the morning and ll the kids ran in together. So refreshing 😂

Agree: talk to the nursery. A ridiculous system.

5foot5 · 25/06/2025 14:01

Yup nursery at fault here.

I can imagine working parents going absolutely spare in this situation. If nursery won't change I would be tempted to look for another. We had none of this nonsense when DD was in a day nursery. Security camera on the front door but a member of staff would buzz you in. Then you took child to the appropriate room, removed their coat and had an informal hand over to whoever was in charge of room. Same at pick up.

WaltzingWaters · 25/06/2025 14:08

Yes, she definitely shouldn’t be skipping the queue. She shouldn’t have to not use her double buggy though.
But overall, the whole system is ridiculous. Most people will be dropping their children at nursery so they can get to work. I’d be late for work all the time if this was the case at our nursery! Luckily it only takes a minute to drop my DS off.

Away2000 · 25/06/2025 14:44

She shouldn’t be skipping the queue, but the nursery needs to sort it out. Absolutely no way I’d be waiting for that long to drop off kids. I used to take my child into their class and be out and driving away less than 5 minutes later.

Instructions · 25/06/2025 14:45

The issue here is the nursery's system. It is not reasonable to run drop off this way.

TescoGold · 25/06/2025 14:56

The nursery is at fault. Complain to the manager - and try to get everyone else to do the same.

ladyofshertonabbas · 25/06/2025 14:57

That system is awful!

JaneGrint · 25/06/2025 15:03

That’s a terrible queuing system! I agree with pp about complaining to the manager about it.

The drop offs at the nursery we used for our DC took a fraction of the time, and if a parent needed a lengthy handover for whatever reason there were other staff there who kept things moving for everyone else.

MumChp · 25/06/2025 15:08

Complain to nursery. Handover was 2 minutes at our nurseries. Most parents are on their way to work!

myheadsjustmush · 25/06/2025 15:09

Yeah that would p* me off too.

Definitely speak to nursery about this - 20 minutes to drop off your child is daft.

Could they have two members of staff on the door? One to speak to parents if they have any issues to discuss, and another person to do a swift handover for those that need it.

And that CF mum needs to be out in her place! 😡

x2boys · 25/06/2025 15:15

Agree the system is ridiculous there will be parents that have minutes to spare, it must be infuriating for them to see the manager having long leisurely chats with each parent

If anything needs handing over they can do it via class dojo or similar

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 25/06/2025 15:16

Do none of the parents work? How do they have time to do this each morning?

Absurd

cyvguhb · 25/06/2025 15:31

Have you posted this before, I remember reading an almost exactly the same thread before. If that wasn't you that thread might have some good suggestions if you can find it

Queue jumper bears the blame in a flawed arrangement

Frankly thd chit-chat at thd door is unreasonable, that’s the bit that needs to stop imho

PurpleThistle7 · 25/06/2025 15:41

This whole setup is ridiculous and I'd not be able to cope. Are there any other options? I don't have an extra half hour to sit around every morning and can't imagine many other people do either!

Blisterinthe · 25/06/2025 15:43

I personally find handovers at drop off and pick up most of the time completely useless and having to file an incident report because my son bumped his head on a sofa at home hilarious. We only let them know because his forehead was very red when we dropped him off as it had just happened, when we picked him up it was back to normal with no bump in sight. I’d argue that it was a very normal thing to happen to a child that practicing pulling himself up.

Cakeandusername · 25/06/2025 15:52

It sounds bonkers. I’d email nursery and ask if system could be looked at. Say if they want to keep queue system please can they remind parents not to queue jump.

IAmNeverThePerson · 25/06/2025 15:53

Does the phrase “Oi there is a queue, get your ass in line”. Or are polite variation of the above never leave your mouth?

ChimneyPot · 25/06/2025 15:55

Everyone needs to get a big double buggy that doesn’t fit them no one will be able to queue and they will have to change the system.
