It sometimes feels like they’re not just doing your hair, they’re gathering intel. I get that chatting is part of the experience for some but occasionally it feels like they’re enjoying the drama more than they let on. AIBU to find it intrusive?

I have had my hair done by the same person for 20 years, we knew each other before we had kids, before she was married. We know all the ins and outs of each other's lives, it's a coffee and a natter with an old friend, with the bonus of beautiful hair at the end.

Its nice if you can have that kind of relationship with them. Makes it less of a chore for both of you.

I had to laugh at the OP saying they're trying to get "intel" they're really not, haha.

They probably couldn't care less and are just faking sounding interested. Unless the client has some kind of juicy high profile connections like with say, the royal family or some A list celebrity. 🤣

They're just doing a paid service within a set time frame and if you want to have a conversation thats fine. If you don't then thats also fine, it doesn't matter either way.
