To say that the "alternative medicine" and conspiracy theorists about Western medicine are dangerous to society?

I have a friend I've known all my life. He first of all refused to have the Covid vaccine and then refused treatment for his prostate cancer and said he was going to treat it with homeopathic medicine. Result was that it spread to his hip bone. Luckily he started chemo and it's worked. What is wrong with these people?

There are so many of them on the Internet. For a start, apple, cider, vinegar doesn't help you lose weight 🤔 😜

It’s just a bit of Darwin’s Law in action isn’t it.

Watch cancer conspiracy theories on the BBC.

Doesn’t it not? Damn wishful thinking :)

I'm just waiting for the usual suspects to come along and call me a fascist 😅

I know one, chemo kills you, chem trails kill you, vaccines kill you
I could go on.
Happy to stuff illegal drugs up her nose though

Kirbert2 · 24/06/2025 19:14

I was just reading yesterday about a young woman who had grown up with an alternative medicine/conspiracy theorist mum so had died from cancer after refusing chemotherapy which would've saved her life.

It's heartbreaking.

I know a few of these twats, they all prove that a little knowledge is dangerous.
Really anti vaxers should be banned from sending their kidd to school (unless vaccinated) and should have to pay for any medical treatments they need when they get ill with measles etc

When i lived in Spain and France, all parents had to provide vaccination certificates. No vaccines, no school. Should be the same here.

I couldn’t agree more
i am also infuriated that of course he (presumably) goes back to the nhs, when it has worsened his condition and is more costly to treat, as a result of his stupidity.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 24/06/2025 19:30

My mother died of Hodgekins lymphoma because she refused to go to the doctor after lumps appeared on her throat and died a horrible death when she could have survived if she'd gone for treatment earlier.

I’m sorry for your loss.
My own mother has a similar ‘head in the sand’ approach which has led to various conditions worsening as well as emergency trips being needed for what started as treatable issues

I'm so sorry to hear that.

My son had non hodgkins lymphoma last year. It can be so treatable, especially if caught early.

It’s wild - and even more shocking how people so readily swallow the misinformation without fact-checking any of it 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 It takes 5 minutes to find a peer reviewed study about almost any topic imaginable.
I’d say I’m a happy medium person……

Got a minor burn? Slap some aloe Vera directly from the plant on it.
Got a cold and feeling a bit run down? I’ll neck endless cups of echinacea.
Sinuses bunged up? Give me the eucalyptus oil to sniff.
I also prefer to give birth at home 🤷🏻‍♀️

But myself and my children are fully vaccinated, I’ll take the antibiotics if I need them, I’ll take painkillers if I need them, and I’ll absolutely go to the doctor if I need to!!

I remember being in an art class of Chinese brush painting and there was this woman who said she didn't trust Western medicine and preferred Chinese medicine. I said to her, are you happy with ground up parts of animals and dodgy herbs as part of any treatment you get? Personally, I think all herbal medicine shops should be closed down forthwith.

I get the frustration…..but I’d argue that herbal medicine does have its place when used correctly and can be great for minor illnesses and injuries. Its lack of regulation that’s the major issue with it.

Some herbal medicine and supplements can be very powerful things if used incorrectly - can cause interactions with eachother and with prescribed drugs.
Scary to think that I could take an online course tomorrow and become a certified herbalist without having spent a day of my life in medical school.

Alternative medicine is an affliction of the middle classes which has filtered down to the lower classes in the form of refusing vaccines among other things.

I remember the one about the guy who had been apricot kernels to the extent he poisoned himself.

He was treated in hospital and lived. He said he intended to continue with them. Absolute moron.

I saw that. So sad especially as her mum had chemo! The result of the inquest be interesting and the go fund me mum had going on for it all.

I've come across her page before not realising shes the nurse who was struck off during covid. Its a intresting hole to fall into. Organ are sold etc and this and that. The people who hang onto every word also..scary

WhenYouSayNothingAtAll · 24/06/2025 19:47

I think there can be a healthy balance. I’m fully vaxxed, so is DD . I only wanted a hospital birth, I want proper drugs if I’m poorly , I cried with joy when I realised the pharmacist can prescribe antibiotics for certain things , if I were to have cancer I want all the drugs/surgeries/therapies (unless I’m like 80) etc. But for the little things? There are some home remedies that work (or maybe it’s placebo effect, who knows?) so I’m happy to give those a go unless I’m getting worse. Some are bonkers, some are pretty common sense. It takes ages to get a GP appt anyway so I might as well “do” something in the meantime.

Alternative medicine is an affliction of the middle classes which has filtered down to the lower classes in the form of refusing vaccines among other things.

Which is mental when you look to history and see the opposite.

It was the peasant folk who knew that if the cut of your hand is looking a bit manky, give it a wash and have a munch on some cheese that’s on the turn and it will probably look better in a few days 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
Whereas the aristocracy had a sore throat and having leeches stuck on their necks by the doctors who didn’t think washing their hands was important 🫠

Mouldy cheese lady was burned as a witch whilst leech man was promoted to royal physician 😳👍🏻👍🏻

I have to admit, I thought that helped you lose weight because once you drank it you were too nauseous to have any food! 😂

Charlatans have been peddling this rubbish for profit, for decades, long before anti-vaxxer types. About 25 years ago a school mum used to go to Mexico for coffee enemas and the like for bowel cancer - needless to say she died.

She may have died after conventional medicine who knows, but in the time since I'm sure coffee enemas haven't proved their worth in any scientific studies.
